Academy of Art University is seeking a Shop Technician for the School of Industrial Design for Fall and Spring semesters. Shop Technicians work directly with students, faculty, and staff on a variety of matters that ensure efficient and effective utilization of resources within the University's labs, equipment facilities and shop spaces. If you have a desire to work with a great group of creative-minded "gear heads", assisting in the day-to-day operation of a state-of-the-art fabrication and painting shop facility and be involved in assisting college Industrial Design students to construct their original projects in our wood, metal, machine, plastics, and paint shops, as they turn their exciting concepts into real prototypes we encourage you to apply. Responsibilities range from handing out tools and solid advice to maintaining machinery and mixing paint and dispensing resins. This is an optimal opportunity for artists with fabrication experience who enjoys toys, furniture, cars and new product development.
Responsibilities:
Train and provide for the safety of all students using studios and shops.Support a diverse student body as well as faculty with general questions regarding shop space and projects.Monitor safety in studios and shops and communicate important safety practices.Regularly inventory shop tools and supplies.Perform special projects and assist with other tasks as required or assigned.Qualifications:
Knowledge of some shop tools a mustKnowledge in the following four shop areas a plus: plastic, wood, metal, and paintIdeal candidate will have strong working knowledge of Industrial Design and enjoy sharing this with a diverse student populationExcellent customer service skills a mustCandidates must be safety mindedFamiliarity with spray painting and/or prototype fabrication is a big plus!
Pay: $24.00/hour
Shift: Monday through Friday, 8 hour shifts

Part-time and full-time Technicians may also attend one tuition-free undergraduate class per semester.
