Summary

Under general supervision, the Graphic Artist is responsible to coordinate, produce, design and implement various publishing projects using production techniques which include computer graphic systems and software for the Runner Newspaper department and customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree in Computer Graphics, Graphics Design or a closely related field, plus two years of experience in professional/commercial graphic design production or graphics project management; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job including the ability to lift at least 50 lbs. Candidates that possess a valid Arizona driver's license will be given preference. Must successfully complete a background check.

Examples of Duties

Conceptualizes and designs professional, high-end design projects from concept to completion for all departments and customers.Designs, develops and produces visual communication material for special events such as posters, invitations, programs, flyers, advertising, and banners.Designs logos, icons, and other visual elements for projects.Coordinates, researches, and evaluates projects to pinpoint central theme, audience, budget and time constraints.Edits images using various graphics software, digital cameras, and scanners.Advises on artistic and visual aid presentations of technical, statistical, and other information, such as providing technical advice on working drawings.Collaborates with appropriate individuals to create advertising themes for Community-sponsored special events and Community programs.Prepares printing layouts including preparatory work such as layouts and paste-up to camera ready art work for the newspaper.Performs other work-related duties as assigned.Other Requirements

Knowledge of principles and methods of conceptual design, page layout, freehand, photographic, and computer techniques, processes and equipment.Knowledge of printing as it applies to graphic design production, including color separations, prepress file preparation, scanning and on press checking of jobs.Knowledge of desktop publishing and computer aided design hardware and software.Knowledge of web design, illustration, commercial art, and publication methods, techniques, and processes is preferred.Skill in designing and layout information material.Skill in creating graphics.Ability to develop, plan, and implement high-quality, professional graphics.Ability to use computer graphics and photo editing software.Ability to operate digital cameras, scanners, printers, and related equipment.Ability to work independently on projects from concept to completion with little or no supervision and prioritize and schedule projects.Ability to communicate ideas and design proposals effectively through oral, visual, and written communication.Ability to operate standard office equipment including a personal computer, MAC, using program applications appropriate to job assignment.Proficient in Adobe Creative Suites/Creative Cloud software and other computer applications.Ability to prepare quotes and project specifications for printing, promotional items and special event elementsAbility to learn new software and keep current with technology and software advancements.Ability to edit content for accuracy, proper spelling and grammar.Ability to promote the image of the Community through choice, use, and distribution of promotional items, creative printed pieces and advertising.Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
