Summary:

Directs, administers, and coordinates the activities of the Medical Communications Center (MEDCOMM) staff in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Directly supervises 20-25 employees in Medical Communications (MedComm). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.• Provides day- to-day direction for ambulance communications

Prepares work schedules to ensure that sufficient shift personnel are available for workload demands.Reviews dispatch operations to identify technical and operational training needs and recommend operational improvements.Reviews and recommends modifications to computer-aided dispatch systems.Assigns duties and examines work for conformance to policies and procedures.Tests, inspects, and operates radio, telephone, computer, and other equipment as needed.Prepares, reviews, and maintains reports, statistics, and records.Performs the work of subordinate dispatch personnel as needed.Meets with committees composed of representatives from fire and police departments, public, and other interested groups to develop, review, and update policies and procedures for dispatch center.

Qualifications:

Hard Skills:

1) Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university; 5 or more years management experience required, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. CAD and data entry experience required. EMS supervisory experience within a high-profile EMS system preferred.

2) Certificates and Licenses :

A. Emergency Medical Dispatcher credentials preferred - can be obtained after employment

3) Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software.

4) Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math/algebra

Soft Skills:

1) Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

2) Writing Ability:

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

3) Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
