Job Summary:The Web and User Experience Designer will join the digital strategy team within the School of Medicine and Public Health Office of Strategic Communications. This position is responsible for creatively executing strategies and tactics at all stages of digital content development.

The Web and User Experience Designer assists with user research and user-centered web content design. Collaborating with marketing, content strategy, design, and development teams, you will leverage analytics, user testing data, and best practices to understand target audiences and translate client goals into user-friendly, accessible digital content that supports the school's mission: advancing health and health equity through remarkable service to patients and communities, outstanding education, and innovative research.

This position includes on-site work in Madison, Wisconsin with hybrid work flexibility; generous vacation and paid time off; competitive insurance; and retirement benefits.Responsibilities: Develops and designs the user interface and overall user experience for websites and applications. May train staff and direct the work of others. Contributes to digital media strategic initiatives and serves as a subject matter expert regarding website design and layout.25% Develops and designs the overall navigation flow, layout of specific pages, and creation of individual graphic elements; ensures that all design elements, templates, and finished solutions work within a variety of browser types and screen settings along with the constraints set by development and design20% Provides design maintenance of websites and other electronic publications and applications20% Develops and implements strategic digital media initiatives, priorities, objectives, and best practices in collaboration with leadership and other functional work units15% Implements graphical and style standards for web sites5% Serves as a subject matter expert and unit liaison to other departments to design graphics and layouts15% Conducts usability, accessibility and quality assurance testing and remediates issuesInstitutional Statement on Diversity:Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Preferred Skills, Experience, Qualifications:-Excellent understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices-Strong understanding of graphic design principles including typography, color theory, layout, and visual hierarchy-Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA Requirements-Demonstrated commitment to web accessibility, inclusivity, and best practices-Experience using Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to gain qualitative insights into user behavior-Basic understanding of front-end implementation (HTML, CSS) and/or the desire to learn and grow these skills

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:-Familiarity with search engine optimization methodologies-Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines-Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and build relationships with stakeholders-Ability to work within existing brand and editorial guidelines-Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana, Monday.com, JIRA, or TrelloWork Type:Full Time: 100%
