Alliance Defending Freedom is looking for a highly skilled

Senior Director of Marketing

to join us in our Scottsdale, AZ or Lansdowne, VA office. As the Senior Director of Marketing, you are a vital part of the Communications team. In this role, you will report to the SVP of Communications and be responsible for marketing and advocacy strategy, website strategy and architecture, and the integration of all digital communications used by ADF to effectively reach and grow audiences.

The Sr. Director is responsible for powerfully representing the brand and work of ADF consistent with strategic and messaging priorities across the broader Communications Team. You will employ effective marketing plans and lead a team of marketing managers and email strategists to drive ADF messages to current and new audiences, with the goal of inspiring, educating, and informing them about our issues. You will optimize the current website, with the goal of a full redesign and a continuous improvement plan that blends the needs of the marketing and direct responses teams, highlighting our legal work and ways that our ministry friends can be more aware of our issues and how to defend our most fundamental freedoms. The new website will be designed to scale and mature with the increasing needs of the organization. You will lead a team of writers, strategists, and technicians, directing best practices, creating lean processes, and implementing business rules for a coherent, strategic website experience. You will partner closely with the social media team and integrate these content channels into the overall digital communications and advertising strategy. This position also works closely with members of the direct response team to support fundraising initiatives.

Your Essential Responsibilities

Define and execute the overall organization’s digital content strategy, ensuring that objectives are measurable, content is strategic and optimized to meet organizational and key stakeholder objectives.

Partner with the ADF social media team, giving feedback on content and strategy.

Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring website visibility and optimization for various audiences.

Act as the primary accountability stakeholder and decision-making authority for website, email, and other communication initiatives.

Create, implement, and measure an organic SEO strategy to increase engagement, web traffic and advocacy and ministry friend resources to make ADF a household name.

Identify new digital strategies and platforms to grow ADF’s base of supporters.

Ensure consistency of message and alignment with strategic objectives and the ADF brand, including editing web and email content when necessary.

Build lean processes that ensure all digital content is accurate, proofread, tested, fits within the website architecture, and adheres to website and SEO best practices.

Work closely with the web team to set website project priorities, develop lean testing procedures, and optimize for consistently increasing engagement, cultivation, and conversion.

Establish protocols and processes for engaging fast-paced issues and breaking news campaigns.

Define measurable KPIs for marketing and web performance and consistently track progress that can be reported to the Executive Leadership Team.

Uphold the organization’s visual and written standards for content, evaluating content for message consistency and compliance with ADF brand, policies, style, tone, and SEO best practices.

Provide regular and timely reports of the team’s efforts and performance against KPIs to provide visibility across the broader team and to senior leadership.

Communication Responsibilities:

Ensure that all digital communication products are synchronized across all channels.

Work closely with Software Integration and Web Services to capture, report, and present data and analysis on campaign performance.

Lead and participate in ideation sessions and proactively integrate digital direct response campaigns with other marketing efforts to ensure consistent messaging, visuals, and actions.

Other Responsibilities:

Be responsible for making financially bearing decisions.

Stay up to date with the latest marketing trends, technology, and best practices.

Research competition, investigate benchmarks, and provide suggestions for improvement.

As a Team Leader, you will:

Oversee an innovative team of marketers, writers, strategists, and technicians to coach, equip, and otherwise ensure the professional development of direct reports.

Work to grow an internal team that effectively creates and executes the organizational objectives according to best website practices.

Create measurable KPIs for each team member as it relates to their focus area.

Act as a servant leader by training, encouraging, coaching, and developing your Team Member(s).

Foster a spirit of trust and innovation on your team.

Meet regularly with your Team Member(s) to discuss their progress and complete performance review.

Approve PTO requests, timecards, and expense reports.

Skills you need to succeed:

Demonstrated proficiency in leading a team that is held to standards in messaging and creativity as well as KPIs.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and website content management systems.

Knowledge of and direct experience with digital marketing and revenue-based campaign components.

Fundamental understanding of at least one commonly used project management processes.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize, multitask, and achieve deadline goals.

Education and/or experience:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or communications.

7+ years working in digital marketing, communications, or fundraising.
