The Chicago Tribune is hiring an experienced editor to oversee business coverage. The role involves setting coverage priorities, editing stories, and supervising reporters. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in daily journalism, business reporting/editing, and a collaborative mindset. They should be skilled at handling breaking news, enterprise stories, and the logistics of daily section production.What you will do:
Work with reporters and other business editors to set coverage priorities – a mix of breaking news, enterprise and watchdog stories.Lead and deliver compelling, reader-focused coverage of local businesses, industries and housing, helping reporters deliver clean, clear, accurate and fair stories.Play a role in the logistics of pulling together the business report each day, including handling wire stories and helping plan and produce digital newsletters and print pages.Some night and weekend work will be required.What you will bring:
Business reporting or editing experience and a background in daily journalism.Experience toggling between directing breaking news, driving sharp enterprise and shepherding the logistics associated with a daily section.The successful candidate must be a skilled line editor with strong news judgment and rigorous standards.A collaborative mindset and approach.High energy, strong organizational skills, empathy, a reader focus and a strong ethical foundation.Who we are:
