Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations/Advertising, or a related field. Master’s degree in a related field preferred. Five (5) years of professional experience in writing, marketing, communications, social media, public relations, or experience in a related field. Preferred qualifications include experience in a state institution of higher education or a patient care environment, a minimum of two (2) years in a management or leadership role with supervisory experience, project oversight, and strategic planning, as well as familiarity with third-party online blog tools, online marketing tools, direct mail, email marketing, online communications, and segmentation programs. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs complex and highly advanced managerial work providing direction and guidance in communications, marketing, and public relations efforts for Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU COM) to increase the visibility and enhance the image of the college. Directs the development and implementation of a strategic marketing and communications plan.Primary Responsibilities:Develops and implements comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to effectively promote Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU - COM) mission, programs, and initiatives.Directs the marketing, public relations, and communications efforts for all COM programs and initiatives.Supervises and directs team projects involving multiple stakeholders.Manages marketing campaigns across multiple platforms.Composes articles that highlight the COM and works with a variety of media outlets.Directs all aspects of media relations, including proactive pitching and responding to media inquiries.Ensures consistent messaging internally and externally to enhance SHSU -COM’s visibility.Directs marketing and communications campaigns to increase awareness and foster community engagement.Works with the SHSU Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) to ensure compliance with branding standards.Writes, edits, and critically reviews content for publications, advertisements, web pages, videos, and social media posts.Collects information and data from stakeholders to design, develop, and distribute bi-monthly and quarterly e-newsletters.Focuses on public relations and marketing to increase the number of physicians serving as preceptors for student doctors.Creates advertisements and marketing materials related to COM events.Writes and submits stories and developing ads for relevant medical associations’ publications.Manages the design and development of the SHSU - COM website.Conducts research and completes interviews to produce content for external audiences.Develops and implements a strategic marketing plan for the SHSU Physicians Clinic.Creates and orders branded promotional materials.Produces advertisements to recruit new faculty, staff, and preceptors.Monitors media coverage of SHSU - COM and provides regular updates to leadership.Creates needed reports including a comprehensive annual report for the COM.Performs other related duties as assigned.Other Specifications:

Works closely with other university departments and external agencies. Must have strong interpersonal skills, together with exceptional verbal and written communication abilities. This position involves some after-hours and weekend commitments. Strong communication skills, both orally and written. Proven ability to develop and implement successful marketing and communication strategies.
