GENERAL PURPOSE:Leads the design, development, and implementation of diverse, multi-modal educational programming and collaterals to support equity and inclusion initiatives at the University of Rochester. Studies and translates best practices in adult learning theories, Design Thinking, Instructional and Curriculum Design, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) to ensure effective education with a proactive, skills-building focus. Independently creates and maintains collections of DEI learning resources and conducts needs assessments, collaborating with university stakeholders to customize educational plans. Utilizes graphic design best practices to develop accessible self-directed learning materials and manages collaborative design processes with effective communication. Uses data and collaborates with experts to set goals and assess outcomes, provides consultations and assessments to ensure the quality of DEIJ programming, exercising a high level of independent judgment. Guides and mentors other learning and DEIJ professionals across the hospital and university campuses in their development and delivery of DEIJ education.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:CURRICULUM DESIGNIn accordance with the OEI Education Program strategic plan, and in collaboration with the OEI Education Facilitation Team:Researches, translates, and applies knowledge of Design Thinking, adult learning theories, behavioral change theories, diverse learning styles, and learning design principles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of educational programming that addresses topics such as stigma reduction, inclusion and belonging, equity and anti-racism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia, and other socially-based forms of discrimination and exclusion.Manages and leads the design process of original DEIJ-related educational opportunities and programs, including multi-workshop curricula packages, live facilitated workshops, storytelling and panel presentations, simulation-style skills-building labs, storyboards and e-Learning courses, and microlearning tools.Leads the process of creating new collaterals to support program implementation, such as facilitation guides and workshop outlines, visually compelling slide decks with detailed speaker notes and references, session goals and objectives, and continuing education-related requirements. Delegates related tasks as appropriate, and provides guidance and feedback on task completion, to education program staff.Develops and delivers 'training of trainer' style in-services to assist OEI education program staff, university and hospital staff and faculty, and OEI team members in becoming proficient in, and applying, instructional technologies, practices, and programs. Conducts observations post in-service and provides feedback, guidance, and skills-development for program delivery.Independently researches and maintains a tailored professional development practice in order to remain up to date on trends and cutting-edge approaches in DEIJ efforts; focuses self-learning on growing edges and gaps in knowledge; uses new knowledge to influence and continuously improve curriculum design.Utilizes technologies such as Microsoft Teams/Office, Airtable, and other remote collaboration tools to develop and maintain efficient virtual/remote curriculum development workflows and accessible storage.Identifies and maintains appropriate time frames and develops and maintains curation cycles for revising and retiring OEI-generated content to ensure materials are in alignment with overall education program goals and strategic initiatives.INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNResearches, develops and maintains an up-to-date library of DEIJ-related learning and educational resources, including but not limited to: in-university experts, speakers, and offerings from Human Resources/Learning and Development; community-based and regional experts and leaders; online learning resources and programs; OEI-based programming and educational support.Serves as a lead contact in the education program for educational programming requests outside of the program’s existing “core” 8-part workshop series, independently fielding all requests for learning resources and support, establishing the OEI education program as a ‘hub’ for learning and connection across the enterprise.Leads and participates in workgroups and initiatives in accordance with above efforts, identifying and including colleagues from across the enterprise as appropriate.In partnership with the OEI Education Facilitation Team, leads and manages the development of multi-modal, comprehensive learning assessments in order to gauge learner needs, knowledge, and readiness levels for DEIJ education and skills-building. Assessments may include conducting interviews, coordinating shadows, conducting research to build digital surveys, and leading focus groups. Develops and implements data collection methods.With considerable leeway for independent judgement, conducts needs assessments utilizing the above methods, and develops educational programming plans in partnership with a diverse array of university stakeholders, including departmental leaders and directors, human resources leadership, attending physicians and residents, university staff and faculty, and community-based partners.Incorporating needs assessment and post-learning-assessment data, as well as instructional design best practices, curates and delivers in-services on individualized learning packages/plans in order to further individual and group skills, knowledge, and capacity related to DEIJ topics.INFORMATION DESIGNApplies best practices in graphic design, social information theory, and learning design taxonomies to develop easily accessible, free-standing, self-directed DEIJ-related learning resources.Creates original learning resources that meet the needs of diverse learners, with multimedia options that include infographics, structured writing, articles, video and audio elements, and toolkits.Partners with requesting individuals and groups to co-develop educational products related to specific hospital- and university-based topics, initiatives, and awareness campaigns.Creates and employs creative collaborative design tools such as templates, design briefs, and feedback loops.Develops and delivers training on implementation toolkits for materials designed, ensuring effective dissemination and application.PROJECT LEADERSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENTIndependently manages a complex portfolio of information and learning design projects with a constantly rotating array of University and Medical Center staff, faculty, and students.Creates, implements, assesses, and continually revises equitable and inclusive collaborative design processes and workflows.Regularly plans and leads meetings with key project stakeholders, creating meeting agendas and visual resources to support shared understanding. Develops project timelines, expectations, and completion planning. Proactively establishes schedules of planning/work meetings, progress check points, and other milestones to ensure project completion and success.Engages in frequent, proactive communication and collaboration on learning and information design projects with stakeholders and involved parties.Prepares and presents reports on project progress and outcomes to stakeholders, workgroups, and OEI leadership. Regularly updates Assistant Director on project progress, proactively seeking support and additional resources as needed.DEI LEARNING DESIGN MENTORSHIP AND CAPACITY BUILDINGIn line with the Equity & Anti-Racism Action Plan (EARAP) and the OEI Education program strategic plan: collaborates on the design, implementation, and assessment of a new cross-enterprise DEI learning design program, providing mentorship, guidance on best practices, capacity building, and skill development for prospective DEIJ educators and curriculum designers not based in OEI.Leads the development of a needs assessment process for prospective DEIJ educators/curriculum designers, as well as the development and implementation of tailored capacity building programming.Acts as a subject matter expert in the fields of both Learning Design and DEI, and independently responds to requests from staff, faculty, and individuals throughout the organization to assess the pedagogical quality and appropriateness, accessibility, and effectiveness of DEIJ educational programming that is delivered and created by non-OEI staff across the organization.In alignment with subject-matter-related best practices, designs and implements the use of assessment tools and processes to facilitate clear, equitable, and understandable feedback on programming reviewed.Guides requesting individuals through longitudinal learning development projects, offering continuous strength-based feedback and suggestions to improve quality, efficacy, and learner experience of DEIJ education programming.Works closely with the OEI Education Facilitation Team to develop and hone their curriculum design and development skills, offering leadership, guidance, and feedback during curricular development processes in order to promote facilitators’ ability to independently design and update new learning material and tailor DEIJ facilitation in real-time, in alignment with adult learning theories, DEIJ best practices, and learning design best pedagogies.COMMUNICATIONS and MARKETING COLLABORATIONWith guidance from OEI communications staff: develops educational and informational content related to OEI efforts and programming such as visual collaterals for print and digital channels, social and online media materials, flyers, newsletters, articles, and programs/booklets.Aligns design approaches and strategies with OEI's initiatives, goals, and brand identity, along with the University’s strategic plan and graphic design guidelines. Partners with University and Medical Center Communications teams as necessary.Supports the communications and information design needs of OEI leadership through the development of slide decks, reports, executive summaries, and other materials that translate OEI efforts and outcomes into understandable and impactful messaging for the wider University and Medical Center communities.Acts as a creative and educational contributor to OEI's web presence.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree required;Master’s Degree preferred;4 years of relevant experience required;Experience in curriculum, education, learning design, graphic design, or information design; adult learning and facilitation preferred;Experience working in higher education, healthcare/public health, and/or diversity, equity, and inclusion preferred;Equivalent combination of education and experience required;Strong communication and presentation skills required;Ability to develop and implement creative concepts and materials required;Ability to foster long-term relationships required;Understands the basic best practices of learning and information design required;Knowledge of DEIJ core principles and how to apply them to educational and communication situations required.The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion to advance the University’s mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and Make the World Ever Better. Pay Range: $63,815 - $95,723 AnnuallyThe referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
