Advertised Job Summary

University Libraries at the University of South Carolina is seeking an innovative and user-focused Research & Instruction librarian who will work in a collaborative environment to support the teaching and research needs of students and faculty across the university.Reporting to the Head of Research & Instruction, the successful candidate will apply a learning-centered approach to developing impactful in-person and online course-based instruction sessions, workshops, and individual and small-group research consultations on research skills and information resources. They will also provide basic research assistance across all subject areas and engage with learners at all academic levels from first-year students to faculty members. As a member of the liaison program, they will focus on strengthening relationships between the library and their assigned departments, including gaining a thorough understanding of departmental resource needs. Participation in relevant professional development activities is expected to stay current with skills as well as meet criteria for tenure. Responsibilities will evolve as both the library environment and campus needs continue to change.The ideal candidate will be approachable and friendly, demonstrating an enthusiasm for teaching and working with students. A desire to learn new skills and explore new areas of expertise is highly valued.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience:

MLIS from an ALA-accredited program (or foreign equivalent); another graduate degree and relevant experience will be considered.Experience providing general and in-depth research and/or instructional services.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:

Ability to communicate effectively with users at all levels of expertise across disciplinesProjects an approachable and customer service-oriented attitudeAbility to collaborate effectively and work on teamsAbility to effectively and efficiently learn new resources

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years experience working in academic librariesExperience and/or training in conducting Systematic Reviews2+ years experience in bibliographic instructionExperience in developing and producing online tutorialsExperience as a liaison or academic training in the social, behavioral, or health sciences
