The Assistant Costume Designer reports to the Costume Designer. They are responsible for assisting with researching, sourcing, prepping, pulling, and fitting principal, day player, and background actors. Responsibilities:

Prep

Collaborate with Designer:

• Spend time with the designer to pull from vendors and shop for the principal cast to ensure alignment with the designer’s vision. • Assist in creating and finalizing full looks for principal cast fittings by ensuring that shopping is completed on time and includes all required elements. •

Coordinate Fittings:

• Work with the coordinator to set up a fitting schedule for actors, ensuring that times align with the designer’s availability. • Support the designer in liaising with rental houses to receive photos of options, obtain pricing, and establish return timelines. Ensure costumes arrive and are returned in a timely manner. •

Resource Management:

• Oversee the creation of a local resource spreadsheet by the shopper. • Work with the wardrobe supervisor to schedule and manage weekly Monday morning team huddles, ensuring all team members are clear on their weekly tasks. •

Costume Reference Boards:

• Create costume reference boards for background (BG) looks and seek designer approval.

Filming

Communication and Preparation:

• Type up and send detailed costume notes to casting for communication with BG. • Work directly with background casting to obtain sizes for background actors. • Prepare garment bags and size tags with the shop set customer and pull costumes for fittings with background actors.

Stock and Scheduling:

• Prepare and pull stock racks for specific BG characters to ensure the on-set team can access them on shoot days. • Organize and assist in managing the tailor and shopper schedules, prioritizing tasks according to the shooting schedule.

On-Set Assistance:

• Exhibit flexibility by assisting the designer with principal, day-player, and BG cast fittings, and establishing costumes on set. • Review post-fitting notes with the designer to ensure any needed items or alterations are delegated appropriately to the team.

Approvals and Documentation:

• Approve BG looks on set with the customer. • Document, photograph, and track needed clearances in collaboration with the Costume Coordinator. Send clearances to the clearance department and follow up for approval. Qualifications: • 1-2 previous projects as Assistant Costume Designer for the entire run of production • Google Drive, sheets, etc. • Keynote • Canva or other similar creative layout tools Compensation: $40 - $45 hourly
