Overview
Berman and Company, a dynamic research, communications, advertising, and government affairs firm, seeks a Junior WordPress Web Developer to join our in-house web development team. We maintain 200+ websites on behalf of many high-profile clients and regularly launch new custom websites for campaigns and organizations.
The position will collaborate with creative and digital colleagues to complete web projects from initial concepting through development and quality assurance. This role is also responsible for ensuring all maintained websites are updated to ensure security and availability.
The developer will have a passion for modern, performant, and accessible web design as well as the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders on project requirements, progress, and deadlines. This position features many opportunities for the right candidate to take ownership over projects and be rewarded for entrepreneurialism. Responsibilities
Collaborate with creative and client leads to plan new website buildsDevelop, test, and launch new WordPress websites using custom classic themes based on Berman's template which makes use of the WordPress block editor and ACFMaintain existing WordPress websites by updating plugins, making ad hoc adjustments to theme code, and performing proactive audits to identify potential issuesMigrate and/or archive websites when necessaryIntegrate third-party services (CRMs, ESPs, tracking, etc.) into existing or new websitesServe as a technical resource for colleagues and clientsContribute to in-house processes and template codeQualifications
Demonstrated experience (2+ years) with the following:Building content-driven sites using WordPress with at least some block editor expertise and basic knowledge of ACFImplementing efficient and accessible markup, ideally using BEM syntaxProducing custom CSS that showcases thorough understanding of layout approaches, unit options, and animationWriting vanilla JavaScript (sans jQuery) using features from the latest ECMAScript standardsWorking knowledge of git especially in collaboration with other developersExperience using generative AI to produce code or assets for website buildsAn eye for modern website design and layoutThorough attention to detailExperience developing custom WordPress plugins leveraging object-oriented PHPExposure to GSAP or similar animation framework for more extensive website animationWorking knowledge of relational databases and SQLExperience configuring and maintaining a LAMP development environmentImplementation of a CI/CD workflow using a build tool like ParcelJS or ViteInterest in or experience building SPAs using a framework like React or Vu
