Under direction of the Executive Director of Philanthropic Partnerships (EDOPP) in University Advancement, the Grant Writer contributes to the LMU's ability to raise support from corporations and private and family foundations in support of the strategic priorities of the university. The Grant Writer is responsible for writing concept notes, letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports to acquire and steward donors through philanthropic partnerships, as assigned by the EDOPP.

Position Specific Accountabilities

Manage full range of activities required to research, prepare, write, and submit grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources including, but not limited to:- Writing and editing letters of intent, concept notes, and grant proposals for submission, including assembling all required documentation- Writing, editing, and overseeing the completion and submission of reports/presentations on existing grants- Partnering with the Corporate and Foundation Philanthropy team to articulate grantmaking trends and evaluation (50%)

Coordinate with academic leadership, faculty, and staff to obtain appropriate information for proposal preparation. (20%)

Research and identify prospective foundation, corporate and government funders (10%)

Produce, organize, centralize, and update proposal/report writing resources for use by the whole Development team. (10%)

Make and sustain personal contacts among foundations and networks (5%)

Perform other duties and support special projects as assigned or requested. (5%)

Requisite Qualifications

Typically a Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications or related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

Minimum 5 years' experience as a grant writer, in marketing communications, client account management or related field.

Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of fundraising, institutional support, and business communication.

Exemplary written communication skills evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.

Excellent interpersonal skills required in order to coordinate with other departments and maintain open lines of communication with necessary parties.

Highly developed organizational skills needed for quick turnaround and frequent periods of high volume.

Maintain confidentially of records, correspondence, and other administrative support.

Demonstrated ability for research and editing.

Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft Office professional systems.
