The primary role of the Social Media Intern position is to create unique and engaging social media content for clients of Student Life Marketing such as the Vice Provost for Student Life. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a marketing and communications environment. The Social Media Intern position should work 10-20 hours per week during the current semester. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor. The Social Media Intern must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative and driven. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in various forms of social media including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Threads, and the following qualifications listed below.

Main Responsibilities

Work alongside Social Media Specialist and other Social Media Interns to assist with the design and execution of various social media campaigns for @purduestudents pages as well as Student Life Marketing clients

Be able to quickly identify social media trends and customize them to fit Student Life content

Film, edit, and schedule both short- and long-form video content (Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, YouTube videos)

Interview students and other stakeholders across campus for various content

Create graphics and take photos for social posts

Create captions/social copy for posts

Brainstorm/ideate new content ideas

Qualifications

Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University

Experience with filming using a smartphone and/or professional camera is highly preferred

Working knowledge of the social media landscape, trends, and platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Threads, etc.

Be able to identify trending content and creatively craft it to fit Student Life at Purdue content

Working knowledge of a video editing software preferred (CapCut, Premiere Pro, etc) or openness to learning

Photography/graphic design experience preferred or eagerness to learn

Be comfortable with interviewing others and being in videos/in front of the camera

Have a creative mindset

Be responsible, detail-oriented, and organized

Be comfortable working both individually and in a team

Starting wage: $11.50 per hour
