Description

Designers create fabrication drawings for water treatment equipment including pressure vessels, structural steel, and piping using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software. Specifically, this role includes the creation of calculations, drawings, bills of materials, and being a technical resource supporting pressure vessel construction. There is also the opportunity to be a part of ongoing product and process developments. This position provides significant advisory engineering support by method of calculations and code adherence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Apply a detailed knowledge of ASME VIII Division 1 Pressure Vessel Code to ensure resulting designs are safe and fully comply with all applicable design and jurisdictional requirements.Prepare fabrication drawings in support of pressure vessel construction.Create 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and extract 2D fully dimensioned drawings with all information to support fabrication.Calculations, analysis and design in accordance with key pressure vessel, structural & piping regulatory codes.Review, oversee & perform engineering calculations for mechanical stresses, member deflections, pressure, weldments, lifting lugs, vessel, and pipe wall thicknesses.Prepare detailed submittal designs for the manufacture of vessels, piping, and controls required for the treatment of municipal scale water systems.Create drawings with detailed Bills of Materials and weld symbolsWork with shop manufacturing, purchasing and sales to identify and resolve all design issues.Investigate and document product design changes / improvements.Perform design work from Engineer’s markups and sketches under minimal supervision.Oversee multiple projects simultaneously.Continuously seek ways to improve the design process and communications.Meet project timelines.Required Skills/Abilities:

Must have proficiency in the use of Autodesk Inventor, or another 3D CAD package.Experience with Ansys, Compress, Mathcad or similar design software desiredSkilled at developing complete sets of complex designs which include vessel and piping designs.Experience reading and understanding P&IDs.Must have the ability to review and understand technical specifications.Must have experience supporting a fabrication shop with accurate details and bill of materials for constructability.Ability to create conceptual designs through final design.Read and write English, communicating effectively with team members.Must always demonstrate and follow safety guidelines.Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Required associate’s degree with focus in mechanical engineering or 2-year engineering technology degreePreferred BS in Mechanical Engineering or similarRequired 6 years’ minimum experience in ASME pressure vessel designUnderstanding of pressure vessel design codes, design calculations, mechanics of materials, machine design, structural designExperience using ERP software (Business Central preferred)Understanding of procedures, material, and project management principlesFamiliarity with quality and OSHA safety standardsWorking knowledge of Adobe & MS Office, especially Excel and WordOutstanding communication skillsExcellent organizational, communication and time-management skillsA team player with leadership abilitiesPhysical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.Able to travel as needed.
