About the position

Assist communications staff with presenting information in a creative and visually appealing way to support the city's communications efforts.

Intern will be regularly scheduled to work an average of 20 hours per week for up to 1 full year. Hours will be flexible within the 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. workday, Monday-Friday.

Undergraduate intern salary: $19.00-$20.00/hour

Graduate intern salary: $21.00/hour

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide support for communications staff and city departments by designing a variety of communications and marketing collateral, including brochures, postcards, signs, newsletters and other items.Assist with designing graphics for social media platforms, website, cable TV productions and in-house display monitors.Ensure compliance with brand manual and other city guidelines.Perform other duties as directed.Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program or taking post-secondary courses for graphic design.

Basic knowledge of fundamental design elements and principles including typography, layout, balance and design.

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud software, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Understanding of differing aspects of print, social media and web resolution/layout.

Ability to:

Work in a deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.

Deal tactfully and effectively with staff, the general public, and outside agencies.Desired Qualifications

Some experience working in an office environment

Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting the city's strategic objectives for racial equity.Currently enrolled in a graduate-level graphic design program.Related design, art, and photography experience.Some writing and editing experience.Experience with Microsoft Office 365, and content design for social media platforms.Interest in government communications.
