PVPA has an opportunity for a theatrical set designer for the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for a professional with a strong knowledge of set design, set painting and construction, as well as the desire to share their passion with students from 7th to 12th grade. The role of the PVPA set designer is to support the set design and construction apparatus for the PVPA production season. The PVPA set designer will be motivated to involve PVPA students in the set construction and painting processes. Under the direction of the Director Arts, you will be responsible for:

Managing PVPA set design budgets for main stage productions.Advise production directors on methods of bringing artistic vision in line with production budgets.Responsible for delivering agreed upon set resources for production the week before the production’s tech week.Set designer has freedom to choose most effective method to produce set materials for productions, to include student resources, personal labor, and/or professional connectionsInventory and manage set stockPurchase paints, building materials, and set pieces using production budget funds.Manage and track budget expenditures for production calendarDeliver all relevant set construction 2 weeks before the opening of the productionResponsible for design consultations with the production director during any given production season.If students are going to be involved in the set building or design process, their workload and responsibility must be managed by the PVPA set designer in line with the PVPA production expectations as explained in the PVPA Directors Handbook.Responsible for communicating set construction personnel names to Director of Arts or PVPA graphic artist tasked with creating production programs.Qualifications;

The successful candidate will minimally hold a Visual Arts Based BA degree, be able to pass a background check (CORI/SORI & Fingerprinting), be computer literate, and provide a set design portfolio. Preferred qualifications include:

Three or more years of experience working in a professional or community theater scene shop.Ability to lift 70 pounds overheadExtensive knowledge of toolsAbility to manage a flexible scheduleOther Information/Instructions:

Stipend $15,000 annually.
