REQUIRED HOURS- (25 hours per week: $15.00/hour (DOE) Mon. 1:15 PM to 8:15 PM, Tues. & Wed. 1:45 PM to 8:15 PM, Sat. 9 AM to 2 PM)

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of entry level, basic public, clerical services including information and reference service, reader's advisory, and circulation services and light supervisory duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the close supervision of a Librarian or the Assistant Library Director or Library Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Public Services: Provides a full range of circulation services, including patron registration and transactions.

Provides ongoing patron and customer service; provides general reference assistance; responds to questions and directs patrons; may provide simple training to patrons in use of computer to locate collection materials via internet, etc.; may monitor e-mail addresses to check for memos, directives and information; may assist the public with photocopying

Participates in staff meetings; does light supervisory duties when library director/assistant librarians are off premises; handles patron issues/complaints.

Provides reader's advisory service; performs routine book maintenance including typing spine labels and covering books; assists in assuring accurate library shelving by shelf reading and reshelving of materials.

Answers telephones and provides routine information or refers and transfers calls.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Education and Experience:* Graduation from high school;

AND

* One (1) year of experience performing above or related duties.

OR

* An equivalent combination of education and experience.* Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of databases and library automation systems, classification, cataloging, knowledge of current library principles and practices; general library reference, circulation, general classification methods, practices and procedures; Dewey Decimal System; various areas of specialization of material related to different patron groups; reader interest levels; interpersonal communication skills. various specialty routines, methods, processes and procedures related to circulation, periodicals, and technical services; software applications; various types of inter-related equipment, specifications and compatibility; establish and maintain effective working relationship with fellow employees, subordinates and patrons of all ages.

Some Skill in interpersonal communications. Library computer system including web search engines and library web site, copy machine, fax machine, online databases, phone.

Ability to operate a computer or computer terminal and perform basic clerical tasks, exercise independent judgment. perform general clerical functions quickly and accurately; understand and follow written and oral instructions and work independently in carrying out work assignments; adhere to a prescribed routine; operate various office machines and equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationship with fellow employees and patrons of all ages; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

* Work Environment:

Incumbent of the position performs in a typical indoor setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing necessary to the performance of most duties. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions and discriminating thinking.
