Summary/Objective

Butler Aerospace & Defense is seeking an experienced technical writer to work in our writing group authoring maintenance publications. This position is in support of contracted technical publication revision services and the creation of new publications.

Areas of Responsibility/Essential FunctionsUnder general direction and according to standard practice, the technical writer works independently on the analysis, organization, and writing of assigned portions of aircraft maintenance publications.Performs a variety of duties in preparing technical writing assignments, covering portions of aircraft maintenance publicationsResearch, writing, and development of portions of aircraft maintenance publications according to the governing specification and published standard workDevelop concise, complete, technically accurate, and easy to understand technical information in a timely fashion with a very high level of qualityExercise initiative and judgment in carrying out detail writing assignments working from engineering drawings, specifications, performance data, or other similar literature. Judgment required compiling and selecting technical data for text and illustrationsDevelop and coordinate the revision/creation of technical illustrations with illustrators on form and content of illustrations in support of aircraft maintenance publicationsProvide frequent status to supervisionMeet established internal and external delivery milestonesInterface with engineers over the content and review of the publications when requiredReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

Preferred, but not required:Aircraft and/or mechanical aptitude and the ability to apply this knowledge to create accurate and complex technical proceduresExperience with rotary wing aircraftExperience with writing maintenance procedures in the aerospace industryA&P mechanic's license, or equivalent military experience in aircraft maintenanceAbility to use of aircraft technical publications and related technical dataExperience with Content@ content management software and XyVision publishing software

Work Experience

Minimum 2 years technical writing experience

Required EducationRequires knowledge of technical publications writing. Must have understanding of engineering specifications drawings, designs, and English composition.Associate or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent trade experience

Work Authorization/Security ClearanceWork authorization: Must be a U.S. person with the ability to work in the U.S.

Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time Exempt position requiring a 40-hour work week.Occasional overtime and possible weekend work are also required to meet customers' needs.Work schedules must be approved by supervision. The employee must be working during the six "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
