Director, Communications & Change Management

This position is within the Business Insights & Analytics (BIA) department and reports to the Vice President, BIA Strategy & Operations. This role is responsible for the development and execution of strategic, internal (and external at times), communications programs to support employee engagement and change management within the BIA organization at Bristol Myers Squibb.

The position requires an experienced communications professional who demonstrates sound business judgment and can work closely with mid- and senior-level leaders in the organization to develop and drive effective and engaging communications. To be successful, the individual must possess the ability to think strategically and execute tactically.

The selected candidate must also work in a collaborative and agile manner to best serve the business. Key attributes of the chosen candidate include: strong follow-through and stakeholder management, excellent verbal and writing skills, and exceptional time management capabilities.

Specific Responsibilities

Lead the development and execution of leadership communications and employee engagement strategies for BIA, working collaboratively with department leaders and cross functional colleagues.

Develop communications to support major initiatives, including but not limited to strategy evolution, Inclusion & Diversity, Talent retention/acquisition, reorganization, and content for specific events such as town halls, leadership roundtables, employee summits, talent campaigns, etc.

This role will also lead the content creation and project management for signature internal leadership events, forums, and training opportunities.

Provide change management leadership and support employee engagement and adoption of change to achieve key business objectives and outcomes.

Engage functional leadership and employees across sites to develop and deliver on strategies that promote our desired culture.

Develop executive communications for functional leaders and develop key communication roadmaps that leverage relevant channels and platforms such as events, newsletters, SharePoint or Teams sites, Viva Engage, social media, etc.

Develop and cascade consistent communications for department wide messaging to reinforce the understanding, context and expected outcomes of BIA strategic initiatives and events.

Develop solid relationships with individuals throughout the BIA network and with adjacent business or enabling functions like Commercialization, Corporate Affairs, Human Resources, Global Inclusion & Diversity, etc.

Provide guidance and communications support for key strategic projects that have the potential to impact the department.

All other projects and tasks as assigned.

This role does not have any direct reports yet it will require leadership and influence with cross-functional teams and peers to create and execute communications programs and initiatives. The Director, Communications and Change Management should work effectively in a highly-matrixed organization, drive strategic communication initiatives aligned with broader company objectives, to deliver high value outcomes. The successful candidate should demonstrate creativity, initiative, adaptability, and the ability to quickly learn the business and operate within a complex, fast-paced and dynamic environment. Strategic, conceptual thinking and strong interpersonal skills are required.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

Qualifications

7-10 years of high-impact communications experience is required. Experience must consist of either serving on an in-house corporate/internal communications team or at an agency.

Bachelor's degree in communications or similar discipline. Masters degree preferred.

A strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and business dynamics influencing strategic priorities.

Ability to convert strategic priorities to an effective communications, engagement and change management strategy

Strong ability to take initiative, develop recommendations, secure alignment and execute with speed and excellence.

Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively within BIA, across the enterprise and with external partners.

Excellent writing skills (i.e., ability to produce clear, compelling, motivating communications quickly), and ability to use expertise to craft messages and strategies for impact.

Strong project management skills and the ability to successfully work in a matrix organization, lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple complex projects and priorities effectively, with minimal supervision.
