The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is the national scientific and educational organization representing the forestry profession in the United States. Founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot, it is the largest professional society for foresters and other forest management professionals and academics in the world. Position Summary

The Editorial Specialist provides support and assistance to the Director of Publications in the production of two scholarly journals, monthly newspaper, and other publications produced by the Society of American Foresters. This position supports the production of journals, a newspaper, and other publication products as needed. This individual is responsible for manuscript submission systems, correspondence with authors, reviewers, and editors; editing proofs; and creating content for print and social media.

This position works under direct supervision of the Director of Publications and does not have any supervisory duties.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Publications, or a related fieldThree plus (3+) years copyeditingThree plus (3+) years writing copy for printComprehensive knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style or APA requirementsProficient with in-house style and branding guidesAbility to meet deadlines, anticipate upcoming requirements, and balance multiple projects, all with attention to detail in a dynamic work environmentAbility to work independently to solve problems, create content, and manage productionSkilled in writing, editing, print, and digital publishingProficient in Microsoft Office applicationsProficient in Excel

SalaryThe salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets, and mail machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, speak, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Expected Hours of Work: Some flexibility of hours and telework may be allowed, but all employees must be available during "core" work hours and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Two work days each week must be in person in the Washington, DC office.

Travel: Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
