Communications Coordinator

The Communications Coordinator serves a critical role in supporting the district's effective communication with the public (including the parents and caregivers of the students in our schools) and with our employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:Oversee web-based communications, including the development and maintenance of the Malden Public Schools website, district social media accounts, automatic phone and email messaging, printed materials, and other relevant communications toolsSupport Principals and their designees with school-based communications effortsServe as liaison between the Superintendent, the members of the Superintendent's Cabinet, and Principals to create and disseminate time-sensitive messages to district stakeholders, the media and the wider community, coordinating efforts with officials of other City of Malden departments as neededEngage with district- and school-based staff to identify and develop content that highlights examples of learning, growth and student success across the districtCreate media releases and advisories, social media posts, and district newsletters; support the development of video productions, podcasts, and other media content as neededServe as the primary point of contact with local media, including pitching stories and responding to media inquiries, which may include supporting the Superintendent and his/his designees in developing media responses, etc.Support the strengthening of internal communications systems to support the effective collaboration and performance of district and school employeesPerform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools

Qualifications:Successful experience in communications role- Required (experience in urban public-school district desirable)Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field-Required (Master's degree desirable)Demonstration of exceptional English communication skills (both verbal and written); proficiency in one or more languages other than English very desirableReferences affirming the candidate's strong organizational capacity and record of completing tasks on time with the utmost accuracyDemonstrated technical proficiency in:The professional use of social media to support organizational objectivesWebsite management platformsEmail marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp, Constant Contact)Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace suiteFamiliarity with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Canva)Familiarity with video and audio production (desirable)

Superintendent of Schools

Terms of Employment:Twelve-month (12) work year. Salary to be negotiated with the Superintendent of Schools; benefits as established for all administrative positions.Performance-based evaluation and compensation in accordance with School Committee policy.
