Willenborg Civic Action Intern: Professional Writing and Community Outreach with the Gift Theatre (2 positions)

The Professional Writing and Community Outreach Willenborg Internship with the Gift Theater offers Dominican University students the opportunity to apply their skills as writers and public arts advocates to project based work with the Gift Theatre, an equity storefront theater located on Chicago's Northwest Side. Interns will collaborate with the Gift's Staff, Board, and Ensemble to promote the theater's productions, assist in writing for grants and fundraisers, and build relations with the surrounding community and area artists.

Interns will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of arts administration (marketing, development, finance) as well as arts education and literary management, depending on their disciplines and areas of interest.

About the Gift Theatre:

The Gift has consistently been committed to artistic outreach on the Northwest side of Chicago, especially in Jefferson Park, Portage Park, Belmont-Cragin, Irving Park and Albany Park, which have historically been working-class neighborhoods with less access to the arts. These neighborhoods are home to robust immigrant populations and a growing Hispanic community, and local theater programming has been proven to drive economic development, strengthen community bonds, and close gaps for low-income and minority students. After many years in Jefferson Park, the Gift is now producing at Filament Theater in Portage Park. This collaboration has been ideal in our mission of making the arts accessible to all.

As the organization's website notes, "Through steady action, we vow to create an environment through our theatre's architecture, physical space, programming, organizational structure, culture, and events where diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion are the celebrated norm."
