POSITION SUMMARY

The Editorial Assistant assists the Assistant Director in preparation and management of SCORE and other department projects through all phases of development and or production. Assists supervisors with both project coordination and daily secretarial needs. Requires high levels of tact, friendliness and other aspects of strongly developed interpersonal skills plus proven organizational skill.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintains/updates SCORE multilingual resource website, reporting functionality issues in a timely manner.Assists supervisor in the production of professional reports, presentation pieces and other materials used to represent the department to the church and general public.Keeps all fiscal files regarding the production of SCORE materials including payments to translators, etc.Communicates with printers and translators as needed to help finalize camera-ready print files.Reviews finalized digital and camera-ready print files and sends files to world field as needed.Orders, collates, and maintains inventory of sample SCORE materials for distribution.Provides SCORE product and promotional information to world-field as needed.Sends out and receives evaluation of new translators to share with supervisor.Performs research related to minority languages and Bible translations as needed/requested.Ensures translation progress of manuscripts and materialsCommunicates with Publishing Houses and translators to finalize camera-ready print files.Reviews finalized digital and camera-ready print files. Provides files to world field.Assists with general secretarial tasks less than 20% of total work time. Answers normal telephone inquiries, produces letters, taking messages, greeting visitors to department, making appointments, assisting with special projects, etc.Must be a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist ChurchMust maintain a regular and reliable attendance schedule.Performs other work-related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Bachelor's (BA/BS) in English, journalism or design-related field required. Appropriate successful work experience in graphic design and/or editing may be acceptable in lieu of scholastic requirements.Fluency in second language strongly preferred.Three or more years of relevant successful work experience are needed to gain the skills and knowledge required to perform job duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Well-developed knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the General Conference and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.Requires well developed knowledge of church employment policies and practices; knowledge of up-to-date office procedures such as filing, telephone techniques, office equipment.Strong computer skills required.Well-developed English language usage skills (spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.).Ability to perform secretarial and support duties with speed and accuracy without constant supervision.Must have the ability to work under pressure and with many interruptions.Position requires keyboard speed, with high accuracy.Absolute confidentiality required at all times; required assistance in facilitating good communications among departmental staff, other departments and outside personnel.Must possess ability to make sound decisions using good judgment on the spur of the moment.
