Senior Manager, External Communications

Working in a dynamic team within AstraZeneca’s Vaccines & Immune therapies unit, this role will work with Senior Directors to build communications programs to coordinate and orchestrate news flow on behalf of our portfolio and pipeline, raising awareness of our efforts to bring transformative vaccines and antibodies to protect against viral and bacterial infections, including product communications, digital amplification, scientific conference presence and relationships with critical Patient Advocacy Groups.AccountabilitiesManages the execution and measurement of the communications programs critical to the success of internal and external Brand communications plans

Participates in the development of Public Relations plans that support the objectives of the Brand scorecard, including communications around data and regulatory milestones, digital and social amplification strategies, congress support and management of relationships with key patient advocacy groups.

Contributes to brand strategy development as appropriate

Manages and implements programs and projects to assure that deadlines are met, that deliverables are as agreed, that budgets are adhered to, and that outcomes meet the established program and project objectives. Coordinates internal approval of all externally-facing materials to adhere to highest ethical standards.

Drafts, writes, edits communications intended for external audiences including press releases, Q&As, reactive press statements and backgrounders. Supports internal communications colleagues to deliver internal workplace and field-force communications to address brand milestones or issues

Participates in Global Cross-Functional Teams, and provides strategic counsel as appropriate

Participates in Corporate Affairs cross-functional initiatives

Manages Brand communications budget

Essential Skills/ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related scientific field

5+ years relevant experience including work within a Global communications agency, NGO or in-house at pharmaceutical / biotech organizations.

Experience working effectively with and managing Public Relations agencies and other vendors

Experience delivering pharmaceutical and/or healthcare campaigns to consumer, patient or specialist audiences

Desirable Skills/ExperienceKnowledge of industry, professional and patient associations

Public relations background, or journalism experience
