Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and five years of experience in marketing, journalism, communications or public relations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Exceptional written communications skills and demonstrated ability to plan and produce compelling communications campaigns across multiple platforms including, print, online, e-news and social media. Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff and the community. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with target audience and general public.

The University of South Alabama's Marketing and Communications department is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential FunctionsDevelops and executes strategies and tactics that enhance communications, creates engagement among target audiences and builds overall awareness to enhance the reputation of the College of Education and Professional Studies.Reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and works in collaboration with the Dean of assigned college to build and maintain close relationships for the purpose of planning, implementing and measuring the impact of compelling marketing strategies and tactics that promote the mission, strategic goals, opportunities, programs, people and events of the colleges audiences that include prospective and current students, alumni, the larger community and others.Works independently to produce, edit, and distribute news, features, print and electronic marketing materials and social media content in alignment with larger marketing strategies and objectives.Acts as primary liaison between CEPS and the USA's Office of Marketing and Communications to ensure that the marketing and communication needs of the colleges are met within the context of the overall University brand and marketing standards and plans effective use of central marketing resources in support of these efforts.Partners with the deans, faculty and staff of assigned colleges to plan marketing strategies and campaigns for undergraduate and graduate recruitment that feature academic programs and highlights career opportunities and alumni outcomes associated with the college to prospective students in local, state and regional markets and works closely with the dean to review ongoing needs, project scope and cost estimates/projections.Enhances the visibility of the college in the community through effective marketing and promotion of public and special events such as lectures, symposia, presentations and performances.Manages the design, content creation and publication of assigned college newsletters and mailing and manages the vendor relations, including coordination of photography.Amplifies and positions alumni success/storytelling and works with alumni relations to identify relevant marketing and public relation opportunities to enhance the college's image among alumni.Plans, writes, edits, produces and disseminates a variety of marketing and communications materials, including news and features for print magazines, press releases, copy for websites an de-news, copy for PowerPoint presentation and copy for brochures and other marketing materials.Designs and coordinates printing and distribution of college invitations and related communications.Plans and executes effective advertising strategies that support the goals of the college, including development of advertising strategies and plans in accordance with established budgets.Enhances the college website in accordance with best practices and in alignment with USA's strategic marketing goals and ensures website is current, accurate and relevant to target audiences.Builds and enhances the social media presence, including, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.Plans, manages and coordinates social media activities, including creating, scheduling and monitoring posts and updates and engaging with and responding to social media audiences.Assists with the scripting and development of video content, including department or program-specific videos for web or social media.Manages student workers/graduate assistants in the college and/or on the marketing team.Consults with college departments and centers to enhance marketing efforts and maintain the college's brand standards.Develops relationships with students actively involved in the colleges to identify and pursue marketing opportunities.Assists with the college's events planning, coordinates event marketing and ensures event documentation for use in their publications.Regular and prompt attendance.Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.Related duties as required.
