The Design Manager requires working collaboratively with other departments at the facility and at Home Office including Production, Engineering, Customer Care, and Sales as well as working with Suppliers. Ensures drawings are produced accurately and timely based off blueprints provided by customers. Responsible for the accurate takeoff of loose lumber and EWP floor systems. Requires the knowledge of commonly used framing concepts and practices within the construction industry. Responsible for the proper training and mentoring of designers in the group. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company and the capability of working in a team environment are necessary for this position.

The Design Manager is focused on supporting and optimizing operations via integrity, professionalism, production capability, operations support, cost management, contract & process excellence, and continuous improvement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Lead, manage, & develop the Design departmentAbility to set up Libraries for component systemsMiTek systems managementUnderstanding of MiTek Integrated Engineering Software VersionThrough understanding of load transfers and the ability to calculate loads throughout the structureWork and communicate collaboratively with the rest of the facility leadership team & corporateFacilitate a culture that is focused on team member experience, customer experience, & leadershipRecruit, hire, and manage qualified Design staffDevelop and design floor and/or roof truss concept drawingsEnsure conformance to all relevant building requirements and municipality building codes, if applicableInterpret design requirements as indicated by procedures, design manuals, and other applicable specificationsGenerate layouts for final constructionEnsure designs are accurate, optimized, and conforms to standardsTrain new associatesDemonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement; identify and respond actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all customers; participates as a team player in all phases of the organization; and is open and responsive to change.Comply with all company policies and proceduresOperate and order within the defined supply terms (lead time, minimum order quantity, delivery, etc)Comply with all corporate contracts & SOPsImplement and abide by corporate policies and proceduresOther duties as assigned within scope of the role.Required Skills

Excellent planning and organizational skillsExperience in designing residential, multi-family, commercial, custom and production floor and roof trussesProficient with Microsoft Office applicationsExperience with MiTek and/or equivalent truss design softwareAbility to read and comprehend blueprintsAttention to detail, takes pride in quality of workEfficient and able to complete assignments within a given deadlineKnowledge of standard construction practices, codes, and carpentryStrong verbal and written communication skillsCommunicates effectively with team membersWell-developed interpersonal and communication skills at all levelsMust be detail-oriented and can multi-task effectivelyAbility to read and understand building specifications greatly desiredEducationBachelor's degree in related field preferred and at least 10 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Professional Qualifications

Minimum 5 years relevant leadership experienceAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manualsStrong interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities.Previous construction experience strongly preferredExperience in manufactured housing is greatly desiredExperience in high-speed manufacturing environment preferredAbility to adapt quickly and make sound decisions in a changing, fast-paced environmentTruss Technician Level II training through SBCA preferredTravel Required

The Design Manager is responsible for the overall design of plans for the quoting and production of floor trusses, roof trusses, and wall panels used in residential, multi-family, and commercial construction projects for Heibar Indiana and will report directly to the General Manager and will work closely with the Operations Team.
