Calvary Women’s Services is seeking a Communications Associate who is a passionate storyteller, ready to work towards our goal of ending homelessness for good.

Is this the role you are looking for If so read on for more details, and make sure to apply today.Reporting to the Communications Director, the Communications Associate will have an essential role in Calvary’s mission by implementing communications and marketing campaigns to raise awareness of and funding for our programs.As a dynamic team member, you will leverage a range of communication mediums to support donor relations, drive fundraising efforts, and increase community engagement. You will be an integral part of the Development and Communications Team and work closely with the broader organization to deliver results. Additionally, you will support Calvary’s success by actively demonstrating our core values – respect, empowerment, collaboration, diversity & inclusion, and excellence – on your team, to the women we serve, and to the broader community.Primary ResponsibilitiesExternal and Internal Communications (60%)Compose compelling, creative written materials to achieve communications and fundraising goalsBuild relationships with staff, residents, volunteers, and donors to amplify stories through print and videoManage Calvary’s social media (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, YouTube), through original, impactful organic content creationWrite, design, and distribute e-newsletters, SMS, and other communication assets under the direction of the Communications DirectorMaintain Calvary’s website, including publishing blogs and ensuring SEO optimizationLead the development of bi-weekly staff e-newslettersUphold brand guidelines and maintain ethical storytelling standardsGraphic Design (25%)Design and produce Calvary’s print newsletter, annual report, brochures, and informational flyersProduce merchandise, business cards, and other collateral materials as neededCreate invitations, posters, and giveaways for eventsEvent Support (15%)Support fundraising goals by executing event-specific marketing plansServe as photographer/videographer and gather stories at events (fundraisers, volunteer days, career fairs, holiday parties, etc.)Assist with day-of event logistics (set-up, breakdown, etc.) as neededRequired QualificationsOne to two years’ experience with internal and/or external communications (internships included)Superb writing and proofreading skills, including knowledge of APA styleFamiliarity with social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, YouTube) and ability to uphold brand guidelinesExperience with Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress, HTML, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Drive, and Constant ContactAbility to develop strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and supporters from diverse backgroundsExcellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detailAction-oriented with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines at any given timeA flexible, team-oriented mindset and the ability to work independentlyWillingness to develop an understanding of Calvary’s housing, health, education, and employment programs and regularly visit program sitesPreferred QualificationsBachelor’s degreeFamiliarity with topics of homelessness, domestic violence, and/or social justiceExperience with fundraising communications and persuasive writingCreative, strategic thinker who will positively shape Calvary’s brandWork EnvironmentAbility to ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and armsAbility to sit, stand, and/or walk for long periodsAbility to operate standard office equipment, including keyboardThis is a hybrid position, working both in-office and/or at Calvary program sites in Washington, D.C. a minimum of two days per week. This is a full-time role; core hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM with evenings and weekends as needed.Applications MUST include a Cover Letter.
