Job Description:

Professional Sports Publications is seeking a self-motivated copy editor to join a growing editorial team that produces a wide range of industry-focused trade publications (e.g. shipping and transportation magazines) and high school sports yearbooks. This will be a full-time, in-person position based out of our Manhattan office.

We’re looking for a team player who is eager to work one-on-one with writers and enjoys the challenge of perfecting copy for print. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in publications with a strong understanding of AP Style and the ability to edit with speed and efficiency.

The copy editor will work closely with the Editors and Associate Editors to ensure quality assurance across all projects.

Responsibilities Include:Copy editing long-form articles (500-1200 words) in Adobe InDesign for accuracy, style and consistencyProviding feedback to writers on style and structureSelf-managing workload to look at sections of different magazines simultaneously as pages become readyCommunicating with lead editors to ensure articles are proofed in a timely mannerCollaborating with internal teams including other editors and page designers to make necessary changes

Skills Desired:Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Publishing or related fieldWorking knowledge of AP Style and the editorial processPrior experience working individually with writers to improve writing flow, syntax and grammarFlexibility to adapt to changing deadlines and ability to multitaskComfortable working with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft WordFamiliarity with workload management programs such as monday.com

The salary ranges from $45k -$50k (DOE) + benefits
