Job Summary / PurposeThis position contributes to the mission and vision of Trinity Health System by providing direct patient care independently and safely operating sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake stages, respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements and other clinical events of patient care. Participates in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs. Essential Key Job ResponsibilitiesProvides for the assessment and evaluation of the appropriateness and effectiveness of diagnostic testing based on patients' age, cognitive and physical abilities, and/or developmental needs. Is responsible for communication to the physician of pertinent patient data.Initiates and monitors overnight testing procedures in accordance with American Academy of Sleep Medicine and within the guidelines of all regulating/governing bodies.Communicates a professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel. Practices strict ethical enforcement of protected medical and employee confidentiality.Operates in full compliance with the organization's safety program. Responds to all emergency preparedness situations as appropriate. Utilizes standard precaution and assures unit's equipment is ready for safe operation. Participates in quality assurance programs as directed.Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in department meetings, in-service programs and continuing education programs. Fulfills yearly education requirements as stated by policy.Participates in clinical/didactic education of Respiratory Therapy/Sleep Technology students.Authorized to make entries in the electronic medical record, consistent with and limited to the scope of the job duties and any applicable licensure.Must have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural environment.Performs other duties as may be assigned by management. Minimum QualificationsRequired Education for Staff Job LevelsGraduate of an AMA approved 2-4 year, college based program of Respiratory Therapy.Licensed by the State of Ohio with a Respiratory Care Practitioner License is required.Registered Polysomnographic Technologist with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists is PREFERRED but not required.Required Licensure and CertificationsRegistration (CRTT) or (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). RRT is preferred. Licensed by the State of Ohio with a Respiratory Care Practitioner license or Polysomnography/Respiratory Therapy licensure or a Polysomnography license. BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire through the American Heart Association: Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMust possess strong knowledge and skill in Respiratory Therapy &/or Polysomnography procedures and diagnostic testing; strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards; good communication skills; must demonstrate personal traits of a high-level commitment, motivation and energy, team orientation, professionalism, trust, personal honesty and integrity, and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.
