Summary

This is an opportunity to join a strong Chapter team and work closely with the development team, local leadership, regional teams, and an outstanding group of volunteers to increase the reach and impact of the Chapter. This is a hybrid position based out of the Illinois Chapter office in downtown Chicago (loop).

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Manager, Content writes all Chapter content to achieve brand awareness, community engagement, fundraising goals, event metrics, program updates, and volunteer support. This position partners with our National Marketing and Communications team to ensure that all messaging is consistent and customized to our local market, and is aligned with our look, feel, tone and strategic communications priorities. This position represents the Chapter in media publicity efforts by partnering with local agencies to spread awareness of brand, engaging storytelling, and effectively fostering meaningful relationships with constituents.

Responsibilities

Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of Breakthrough T1D. Understands the strategic direction and purpose of the organization and supports the Chapter's fundraising strategies and business needs.Collaborates with Marketing and Communications team members to develop content that aligns with organizational goals and priorities.Partners with Marketing and Communications team to develop all Chapter content to achieve brand awareness, community engagement, fundraising goals, event metrics, program updates, and volunteer support efforts.Serves as primary liaison to the National Marketing and Communications (Marcom) team. Attends MarCom Advisory Calls, disseminates key information to Chapter staff, and stays aware of upcoming National campaigns.Serves as primary brand ambassador for all Chapter communications. Reviews digital and printed materials for brand accuracy and partners with Chapter staff to ensure best practices.Creates and distributes Chapter communication materials including email marketing, newsletters, press releases, printed materials, social media, blog posts, website updates, scripts, and additional as needed. Ensures adherence to brand voice and style guidelines as well as accuracy and consistency.Collaborates with Executive Director and leadership team to streamline communications for public engagement including research update scripts, Board communications, media coverage, and local events.Serves as the lead Chapter representative in collaboration with National staff on universal marketing and communication initiatives. Convene local team to disseminate key information cross-departmentally.Represents Chapter in media publicity efforts by partnering with local agencies to spread awareness of brand, engaging storytelling, and effectively fostering meaningful relationships with constituents.Implements innovative and trending communication storytelling strategies throughout all Chapter communications and events to elevate engagement.Manages chapter communications calendar and chapter social media accounts, with content provided by various departments.Ensures personal accountability for meeting deadlines and responding to volunteers and other department requests.Maintains a good understanding of Breakthrough T1D's mission and research cure therapeutics.Qualifications

3 years of work experience in nonprofit development with marketing, event script writing, promotions, and communications management preferred.Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Active listening, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Effectively multi-task, establish priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure. Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.Must be a self-starter while also being collaborative and an amazing team player.Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint).Proficiency with design software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Canva).Proficiency with databases (Salesforce and Greater Giving) preferred.Ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers and demonstrate an "all hands-on deck" and flexible demeanor.College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to travel within Chapter footprint. Occasional evening and weekend work required as needed.
