Job Summary

This is a contract role with a contract end date of 12-months from hire date.The incumbent will be responsible for the development, administration and implementation of a research program funded by the National Institute of Health National Health, Lung, and Blood Institute, Supportive Training after Cardiac Rehabilitation Including Virtual Engagement: The STRIVE Study. STRIVE aims to determine the effect of virtual coaching and social support on adherence to physical activity, psychosocial, social cognitive and clinical outcomes compared with usual care. This study will be conducted at UCSF Medical Center and UC Davis.

In the STRIVE study, participants in both groups will receive an established cardiac rehabilitation mobile app for daily self-monitoring of exercise, blood pressure, and weight; education via weekly text messages; and assigned monthly videos on various health topics. The intervention group will additionally receive individually tailored virtual coaching with goal-setting and social support/networking, using principles of gamification. The incumbent will perform an initial intake assessment with participants eligible and deliver the virtual coaching. While the participant is in the 6-month program, the incumbent will conduct regular one-on-one assessments with study participants to review goals and modify the individualized program as needed. This position will work in conjunction with the study Clinical Research Coordinators, who will be conducting some of the other study specific duties (e.g., informed consent).

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $71,700 - $107,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Community Health Systems promotes and sustains health in the community and workplace, with particular emphasis on communities and vulnerable populations. The department is committed to improving health and health care for those served by community-based health care systems through educating nurses whose foci include the individual, community and health system, conducting research, and providing services in the community to address the health issues of those who are not well-served by the traditional institution-based health care system.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, exercise physiology, health education, public health or in related area and minimum three years of experience or equivalent experience / training

Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Thorough knowledge of the health promotion and education field.

Thorough knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.

Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.

Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse client groups.

Effective organizational skills.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.

Six months of clinical experience working with patients

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing or Exercise Physiology

One year research-related experience

Verbal, written and reading fluency in Spanish

Human Subjects Protections and Good Clinical Practice Certification

Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California

Experience with patient education specifically in physical activity, nutrition, survivorship, and mental health

Experience in motivational interviewing and health coaching

Experience working with cardiovascular patients

License/Certification

Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - Required

Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California - Preferred

Human Subjects Protections and Good Clinical Practice Certification - Preferred
