Job Summary

We are seeking a Worship Music Director skilled in providing music to a traditional worship format to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and directing our traditional worship music ministry in a way that is consistent with United Methodist mission, values, and theology.

Duties

Plan, prepare, and direct all music for the 11am Sunday worship service, holiday services, and special services, such as weddings or funerals. This includes, but is not limited to, providing musical accompaniment at all worship services and conducting a choir. Additional compensation for special services will be at the substitute accompanist rate of $150, with the privilege of the right of first refusal.

Create a musical calendar for worship based on the Christian Year.

Work to enhance the music program through recruiting efforts. This should include but is not limited to letters, phone calls, emails and other necessary means to build and retain participation.

Participate as an ex officio member of the church’s leadership team, providing consultation as requested.

Be responsible for ordering new music and maintaining the music library.

Coordinate care of church-owned musical instruments and related equipment with the Trustees of the church.

Prepare an annual budget for the music program in consultation with the Lead Pastor, to be submitted to the Finance Committee according to organizational practice.

Supervise and be available for consultation with all musical volunteers and guest musicians.

Plan and execute fundraising activities in consultation with the Lead Pastor and Finance Committee.

Supervise and facilitate background check procedures for all ministry volunteers relevant to this role at Epworth’s expense. Ensure Safe Sanctuaries standards are being met by all volunteers working with minor children.

Arrange for all performance of duplication licenses as required.

Arrange for a substitute in the event of an absence.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in music or a related field highly preferred.

Strong musical background, including performance and conducting experience.

Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with parishioners, staff, and volunteers.

Ability to read music, including the ability to sight-read music.

Ability to play the piano at an accomplished level. Ability to play the organ a big plus.

Experience with budgeting and resource management, or willingness to be trained in this area.

Sensitivity for a range of theological positions.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 5 – 7 per week
