Assistant Editor/Copy Desk Chief, Branding Iron newspaper
JOB PURPOSE:
Provide editing, proofing, and page design supervision of newspaper copy before publication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Edit all copy prepared for composition.Design and paginate pages for newspaper.Proof all copy after composition.Supervise and direct other copy editors in the completion of the first three duties.Meet daily with editor or managing editor for consultation and assignment.Maintain regular office hours of not less than 15 hours per week.Assign stories and photos to staff as needed.Develop weekly budget in collaboration with the editor in chief.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate to be available to work on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Full-time studentMinimum 2.5 GPAAbility to maintain irregular hours, including evenings 3-9 pm.Must be available to attend training Aug. 21 and 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior newspaper production, including writing, proofing, and editing.Thorough knowledge of AP style and BI style.Some prior supervisory experience.
