JOB TITLE:

Director of Communications and Public Information

REPORTS TO:

Chief Talent Officer

JOB GOAL:

To lead and manage the district's communication efforts while fostering a positive public image, enhancing shareholder engagement, and ensuring transparent and effective communication across all platforms

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related fieldFive (5) years of experience in one of the above fields, with at least one year in a supervisory role preferredExceptional oral and written communication skillsWork experience in public education preferredStrong analytical and decision-making skillsStrong ability to be adaptive to and proficiently use current technologyAbility to develop and maintain positive rapport and credibility with key stakeholder groupsEfficient in developing and executing comprehensive communication strategiesAbility to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrates support for and clearly articulates the District's vision, mission, goals, and prioritiesDevelops and implements comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the district's goals and prioritiesCreates annual and periodic communication plans that include messaging, outreach, and engagement initiativesActs as the district's and media outlets' primary liaisonPrepares and distributes press releasesHandles media and other public inquiriesCoordinates media eventsBuilds and maintains strong relationships with local, regional, and national mediaCollaborates on the development and execution of crisis communication plansManages communications during emergencies or sensitive situations, ensuring accurate and timely information disseminationEnhances internal communication tools and practices to ensure district staff, educators, and administrators are well-informed and engagedDevelops and disseminates regular updates, newsletters, and internal briefingsOversees communication with external stakeholders, including parents, community leaders, vendors, and other partnersOversees the development and maintenance of newsletters, brochures, websites, and other digital content to inform and engage the communityOversees the district's social media presenceOversees the management of the district and school websites and social media accounts, including search engine optimizationEnsures consistency in the district's branding and messaging across all communication platforms and printed materialsDevelops and maintains brand guidelines and ensures adherence to these standardsCoordinates district events, including press conferences, public meetings, and community outreach programsBuilds, supervises, and mentors the communications teamProvides guidance, support, professional development, and supervision to ensure consistent, high-quality deliverablesMonitors and analyzes communication metrics and feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategiesEnsures the proper and consistent use of the school's trademark and logo across all internal and external communicationsCoordinates the development and implementation of district and school surveysUses data-driven insights to refine approaches and improve engagementCollaborates with other central office departments in coordinating employee recruitment eventsAdheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local lawsPerforms other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
