POSITION SUMMARY

The Grant Writer/Development Specialist is responsible for writing and preparing grant and funding proposals for government agencies, foundations, corporations, and private donors, and will support initiatives related to fundraising, agency events, public relations & social media, government affairs and advocacy, general administration and other special projects. The Specialist will write all grant reports and prepare related funder correspondence. He will also prepare public relations materials, including e-blasts, fact sheets, reports and other documents that raise awareness of Kheir's programs, services and accomplishments. This person must be self-directed and capable of working independently on proposals and reports with limited instruction. He will be responsible for meeting performance targets for proposals and applications. He will have a broad range of duties that contribute to increased awareness of Kheir and revenue generation for the organization. The position requires excellent communication and social skills, as he will support Kheir's efforts to promote new donor acquisition and existing donor and partner retention projects, and will act as a representative for Kheir at select community and donor events. This person must be highly organized, professional, and adept at problem-solving and multi-tasking. The Specialist will be reporting to the Director of External Affairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES• Write proposals, reports, and other funder correspondences.• Grant Writer/Development Specialist Annual Goals:o $400,000 awarded annually from private donors and foundations - during a year in which at least one of the following HRSA applications is submitted: New Access Point, Service Area Competition, or other major HRSA grant of 100+ pages. The amount awarded by HRSA would not be considered as part of the $400,000 target.o $650,000 awarded annually from all types of donors - during a year in which no application is submitted for New Access Point, Service Area Competition, or other major HRSA grant of 100+ pages.• Prepare long term and short term projects, reports, correspondence, and other materials accurately, following established guidelines and procedures with limited supervision.• Use various data sources to run reports and write summaries of results for internal and external use (grant applications and reports, public relations pieces, etc.).• Coordinate special projects and new program development to promote increased awareness of Kheir in the community and among potential and existing donors.• Research, develop and sustain traditional and creative fundraising programs and projects.• Drive the implementation of annual plans for development activities.• Identify potential sources of funding and revenue, while helping maintain positive relationships with existing funders.• Coordinate efforts of key staff members and provide grants/project management as needed to ensure that documents are completed by the specified deadlines for grant proposals and reports.• Track and monitor proposals, their deadlines, and requirements.• Research healthcare issues and policies to incorporate into grant-writing and public relations work.• Provide event planning support for agency events, including Kheir's annual gala and smaller events for donors, staff, and/or partners.• Write and develop public relations and marketing materials, including e-Newsletters, press releases, donor & media packets; organizes press conferences and other media events.• Co-manage Kheir's social media presence, including daily posts on the organization's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other online platforms.• Spearhead the organization's advocacy efforts and government affairs projects, including writing and requesting letters of support, collaborating with local elected officials' offices, staying abreast of pending and passed legislation affecting Kheir's services, participating in collaborative efforts to promote relevant legislation, etc.• Supports Kheir's Board of Directors, including meeting coordination and minutes, reports and material preparation and Board relations activities.• Develop effective working relationships with donors, volunteers, government and foundation representatives and others to nurture their connection to the organization.• Update, record and maintain electronic and hard copy client, donor, and administrative filing system and database• Provide general administrative and development support.• Greet guests, provide tours, organize meetings and fulfill selected hospitality duties as needed.• Other additional duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS• Bachelor's Degree required.• Minimum 3 years of development and grant writing experience or applicable experience in healthcare or nonprofit administration, public relations & marketing, government affairs, and/or related field.• Ability to write grants from concept, LOI, to full proposal.• Experience with HRSA or other federal grants highly preferred.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, including proofreading skills.• Ability to efficiently prioritize duties, multi-task in a fast-paced environment; to approach all duties with discretion and fortitude.• High energy level and ability to work in a team environment.• Is committed to producing organized and high-quality work.• Self motivation and strong work ethic, with the ability to quickly follow up on assignments and show initiative.• Strong knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and Outlook)• Ability to interact with multiethnic clientele, especially those whose native language is not English• Ability to follow and provide detailed instructions.• Strong sense of judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.• Must have a valid CA Driver's License, auto insurance, current vehicle registration with clean records & everyday access to a reliable vehicle.• Completion of DOJ background check• Must be available for occasional evening and weekend events.
