About Nadia’s InitiativeNadia’s Initiative (NI) was founded in 2018 by Nadia Murad, a leading human rights advocate and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. NI is dedicated to rebuilding communities in crisis and advocating globally for survivors of genocide and sexual violence.Digital Communications InternNadia’s Initiative is looking for a social media savvy and mission-driven Digital Communications Intern. Reporting to the Digital Communications Lead, this individual will assist in creating impactful content and expanding NI’s digital presence/engagement across all social channels. They will have the opportunity to develop professional communications skills in the fields of international development and human rights advocacy while taking ownership of new digital initiatives from start to finish. They will also support the communications team with other comms duties as needed.The Digital Communications Intern will join a small, dynamic headquarters team committed to carrying out NI’s mission while supporting colleagues on the ground in Iraq.This role can be done remotely (ideally between GMT-4 and GMT+3 time zones) or in a hybrid environment. If carried out in a hybrid manner, the intern would be based one-to-two days a week in the NI headquarters office in Washington, DC.ResponsibilitiesAssist in drafting engaging and original content for NI’s social media channelsProduce creative and interactive posts, graphics, and other digital content based on NI’s programs and advocacy workAssist in editing video contentAssist in managing NI’s social media platforms, including drafting and scheduling postsSupport the growth of NI’s audience across social media platformsAssist in drafting press releases and other key communications deliverables as neededServe as thought partner and editor for the comms team on other communications-related tasks as neededDemonstrate creative thinking and and an ability to stay ahead of the curve on social media trendsComplete other duties as assigned to support the missionWho We’re Looking For (Qualifications)This position is best suited for an aspiring non-profit communications professional who is hardworking, collaborative, detail-oriented, culturally sensitive, and committed to NI’s mission. Demonstrated understanding and passion for women’s empowerment, international development, human rights, and/or peacebuilding is a plus, but not required. In addition, we are looking for an individual with:Excellent writing skills with native-level English proficiency (required)Experience creating impactful social media content across a variety of platforms (required)Strong graphic design skills (required)Strong attention to detail (required)Fluency in social media trends (required)Fluency in video editing software (preferred)Creativity; takes initiative to propose new ideas (preferred)Flexibility and the ability to work under tight deadlines (required)A proactive work style and the ability to take ownership/work independently, while also collaborating and communicating clearly with the team (required)*Note: U.S. work authorization required if interning within the U.S.Other Important Aspects of the RoleNadia’s Initiative is an inclusive non-profit organization that fosters learning, professional growth, collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and respect.
