The Jr. Technical Writer is responsible for managing documentation, informational materials including user guides and training files, the IT customer knowledge base, and documentation libraries. The Jr. Technical Writer works closely with cross-functional teams including developers and subject matter experts, to gather information and develop the required documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, a basic understanding of technical concepts, and a desire to learn and grow in technical writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in writing, editing, and proofreading technical documentation, including user guides, installation manuals, and other documentation.

Manage the scoping, creation, and delivery of communications pieces for business and IT leaders.

Help organize and structure content to ensure clarity and usability for the target audience.

Write informational material related to departmental activities and projects.

Review and revise existing documents based on feedback from team members and end-users to improve readability and effectiveness.

Use documentation tools and software to create and manage content (e.g., Microsoft Word, Confluence, SharePoint, etc.).

Contribute to and manage the IT knowledge base. Manage and work within document libraries, repositories, and other areas included in the IT knowledge base. Approve documents stored in these libraries.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or related fields.

1-2 years of technical writing or other professional communications experience. Can also include internship experience.

Familiarity with MS Office, JavaScript, XML, Agile/Scrum, Tableau, and software development processes.

Experience in application development, project management, or cloud software applications is beneficial.

SKILLS:

Must possess excellent communication skills, including clear, concise, and solid written and verbal skills.

Create and edit technical documentation, including user manuals, specifications, and testing protocols.

Collaborate with subject-matter experts to ensure accuracy and clarity.

Fact-check content to maintain quality and consistency.

Manage multiple tasks independently or in collaboration with other writers or experts.

Expertise in visual display of quantitative and qualitative information.

Able to effectively manage deadlines and prioritize workload.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and in Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Experience managing the scoping, creation, and delivery of communications pieces.

Experience managing documents in MS SharePoint-based libraries.

Familiarity with Photoshop and other design applications is a plus.

Excellent grammar and proofreading skills.

Ability to create, edit, and revise a range of technical communications from compiled raw data.

Skill in collecting, analyzing, verifying, and presenting information.

Ability to communicate with and understand the requirements of professional staff.

Ability to interact with all levels of management in a team environment.

Highly self-motivated and directed.

Keen attention to detail.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Strong customer service orientation.
