Prominent collections in LSCUA include the Starr Women's Hall of Fame inductee collections, the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America, and the Edgar Parks Snow Papers. SCA supports a major component of teaching and learning in the humanities, arts, and social sciences through the use of primary source materials; provides high impact learning experiences to a broad range of students including the development of national award-winning student-curated exhibits; and directly supports undergraduate research initiatives.Job Description

Head of LaBudde Special Collections and University ArchivesThe UMKC University Libraries are seeking an experienced leader to serve as our Head of LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives (LSCUA). The Head of LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives is responsible for providing direction and setting priorities for a wide variety of departmental work related to managing access, public use, processing, preservation, and maintenance of collections, and supervising faculty and staff. The Head of LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives actively manages departmental workflows and contributes to establishing priorities and policies within both the department and division. In addition to these responsibilities, the position monitors trends and developments in rare book and archives management and recommends appropriate adoption and implementation of new technologies and methods for acquisition, access, and preservation. This position is a 12-month, non-tenure track, ranked benefit-eligible faculty librarian appointment, has supervisory responsibilities, and reports to the Associate Dean of Special Collections & Archives.Primary duties and responsibilities include:

Provides leadership and oversight of LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives, a department consisting of one ranked NTT faculty member, two academic appointments, one staff member, and a team of student employees.Develops, documents, implements, evaluates, maintains, and revises as necessary departmental workflows, policies, procedures, and activities.Manages the staff responsible for the daily operation of the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room service desk, ensuring adequate service levels to meet the needs of researchers.As part of a team, provides in-person, telephone, and electronic reference service for users of LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives and ensures the department meets the UMKC Libraries "Standards for Reference Service."

Oversees the security, facilities, and inventory of LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives across staff areas, the reading room, and multiple onsite secure closed stacks locations.Works closely with colleagues throughout the Libraries to implement and maintain shared policies and procedures.Serves as a member of the Libraries' Disaster Team.Tracks emerging developments in special collections librarianship and makes appropriate recommendations.Establishes short and long-range goals that align with the Division, Library and University goals and objectives.Participates in and may initiate external grant-funded projects or other fundraising opportunities.Supervises, hires, evaluates, trains, and appraises faculty and staff as necessary to ensure smooth operations that follow established policies. Directly supervises the University Archivist, Operations and Processing Associate and Collections and Print Preservation Associate; indirectly supervises the Curator of Special Collections and Archives.Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:A master's degree in library science/library information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA's Human Resource Development and Recruitment Office or equivalent.3+ years of experience working in special collections and/or archives.Supervisory experience or successful experience managing a team.Demonstrated knowledge of archival processing practices, understanding of archival standards including DACS and EAD, experience with archival management systems, and awareness of national issues and trends in archives.Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a team-based, service-oriented environment.Evidence of experiences and expertise that support the UM System Values Commitment and enrich our missions of teaching, research and engagement.Potential to meet promotion requirements in non-tenure track appointment, evidenced through service, research, leadership, innovation, and/or professional development.Anticipated Hiring Range Salary will be commensurate with rank and qualifications. It is anticipated that this position will be hired at a Librarian II, III, or IV, and the anticipated hiring range for this position is $57,500-$90,000. Minimum salaries for ranks are: Librarian I $50,000, Librarian II $55,000, Librarian III $62,500, and Librarian IV $72,500.
