Find out more about the daily tasks, overall responsibilities, and required experience for this opportunity by scrolling down now.Overview:St. Barnabas Episcopal Parish in Denver, Colorado, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Music Director to lead our music ministry. The ideal candidate will be passionate about liturgical music, skilled in a variety of musical styles, and capable of inspiring and growing our choir. The Music Director will work closely with the clergy, staff, and congregation to enhance the worship experience through music, ensuring that it reflects the rich traditions of the Episcopal Church while embracing new and diverse musical expressions (e.g. classical, gospel, spirituals, world music, contemporary, etc.).Key Responsibilities:Liturgical Music Planning:

Collaborate with the Rector and other clergy to plan and select music for all worship services, including Sundays, Holy Days, special services, and seasonal liturgies. This includes selecting choir anthems based on scriptural themes and parish events. Arrange for special music as needed (e.g. when the choir is not in session). Coordinate cantors weekly.Choir Leadership:

Recruit, rehearse, and direct the church choir, which currently meets on Thursdays 7:00-8:45pm, ensuring musical excellence. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for choir members of all skill levels.Service Accompaniment:

Supervise the organist/pianist and other instrumentalists. Ensure and coordinate organ, piano, or other instrumental accompaniment for all worship services, choir rehearsals, and special events.Music Program Development:

Expand the church’s music program by exploring opportunities for additional ensembles, such as children’s choir, bell choir, or instrumental groups.Community Engagement:

Work with the church leadership to develop music outreach initiatives that connect with the broader community, including concerts, music workshops, and collaborations with local artists and schools.Administrative Duties:

Manage the music budget, maintain the music library, provide musical graphics for all worship bulletins, and coordinate with other church staff and volunteers. Attend regularly scheduled meetings. Ensure all music-related aspects of services run smoothly. Schedule organ and piano maintenance. Keep music license and music reporting current. Give input concerning the music budget to the Finance committee each year as it develops the parish budget.Professional Development:

Stay informed about current trends in church music and liturgy, attending workshops and conferences as needed.Qualifications:Education:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in music, church music, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.Experience:

Some experience as a music director or similar role in a liturgical setting, preferably within the Episcopal Church.Musical Skills:

Experience with choral directing, music arranging, and knowledge of a broad repertoire of sacred and secular music.Liturgical Knowledge:

Familiarity with Episcopal liturgy, the liturgical calendar, and the role of music in worship. Understanding of the Revised Common Lectionary is a plus.Leadership:

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate volunteers. Experience working collaboratively with clergy, staff, and lay leaders.Technology:

Proficiency in using technology for music planning, virtual rehearsals, and worship services.
