Director of Development and Communications (US) The Tanzanian Children’s Fund (TCF) works to eliminate poverty and improve the lives of marginalized children and families in the Oldeani area of northern Tanzania. Our goal is to ensure that all children and families in this region have the opportunity to lead healthy, secure, and fulfilling lives. TCF is seeking a skilled and experienced candidate with a proven track record of successful fundraising to join our US-based team as the Director of Development and Communications. This is a full-time, salaried position, responsible for TCF’s development and communications strategies. Based in Cambridge, MA and reporting to the US Director, responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Fundraising and Donor Stewardship Design, implement, and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy focused on major donors and global institutions that are aligned with TCF’s mission and goals Cultivate and deepen meaningful relationships with a diverse donor base to drive engagement and retention Build strong relationships with new major gift prospects as well as corporate and foundation donors Partnering with TCF/RVCF Leadership to ensure all fundraising goals are met through campaign development and robust funding proposals Ensure alignment of fundraising activities with TCF’s Strategic Plan, including funding of program-specific budgets Create a detailed development plan with measurable goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) to lead the organization in meeting its annual and campaign-specific fundraising goals Participate in fundraising tours (events and meetings) in partnership with other Senior Leadership Create a development plan and solicitation materials for TCF Canada in partnership with the TCF Canada Board of Directors Database & CRM Management Manage acknowledgement letter process in coordination with the Development Associate Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed Collaborate with Development Associate to analyze renewal and retention rates; including review of lapsed donors and potential for re-engagement Communications Develop and execute an effective external communications strategy Create and/or oversee the production of high-quality communications and outreach materials, including, but not limited to: Monthly email news flashes Monthly blog posts Bi-monthly Volunteer Alumni Updates Annual reports Appeals Annual Newsletter Printed marketing materials that align with development objectives Provide the Sponsorship and Communications Coordinator (based in Tanzania) with strategic support in managing the sponsorship program and developing external communications Pursue opportunities for increased visibility Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting Prepare monthly individual development updates as requested by the US Director Coordinate and collate field-based program updates for use in all communication material Identify how data can best be used in communications materials, storytelling and donor recruitment QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred 5-8 years of experience working in fundraising Experience building and managing relationships with multiple donor sources Exceptional verbal and written skills, capable of crafting and delivering messages that engage and motivate donors Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and in a time sensitive manner Attention to detail in fiscal and written deliverables Ability to work autonomously and proactively Demonstrated ability to work with others across cultures and backgrounds with respect and collegiality Familiarity with Kindful donor management software preferred Must have a legal right to work in the US as we are unable to sponsor visas or relocations for this role Some travel required for fundraising events and donor meetings BENEFITS: Competitive salary Health care coverage (choice of two plans) 15 vacation days, 3 personal days, and up to 10 days sick leave per year 14 paid holidays While TCF has a flexible work environment, this position must be present at TCF’s Cambridge, MA office a minimum of 3 days per week Annual work visit to the Rift Valley Children’s Village in Karatu, Tanzania
