The Adirondack Daily Enterprise and the weekly Lake Placid News are seeking an experienced journalist to join our award-winning newsroom as a full-time Reporter/ Assistant Editor. Our goal is to produce high quality and impactful community journalism. With a heavy emphasis on reporting, this person will help the Editor/Publisher produce the papers' websites, print editions and special sections. This job includes writing news/feature stories, editorials and columns; photography; editing; page design; website and social media management; mentoring and coaching the writing staff; and working with correspondents,columnists and interns.

We are looking for someone who:- has three or more years of relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing;- is curious and community minded; - is a strong storyteller and has demonstrated photography skills; - has experience covering breaking news events, either in the field, in the newsroom or both;- works well under pressure and deadlines;- is detail-oriented, organized, meets deadlines and is proficient in AP style;- has good news judgment and strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills;- has excellent computer and internet skills;- has excellent problem-solving ability, decision-making skills and strong journalism ethics;- will respond effectively to sensitive inquiries/complaints in a timely manner;- will communicate clearly and deal effectively/politely with staff, colleagues and the general public;- has a degree in journalism, comunication or equivalent experience; and- has a valid driver's license and reliable transportation; Experience using Adobe InDesign and PhotoShop is helpful Benefits include health and dental insurance, 401k, vacation and sick time.

Pay range is $17.85 to $19.85/ hour, depending on experience.

This is a unique opportunity to cover an Olympic town inside the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States - the 6- million-acre Adirondack Park.The daily covers the Tri-Lakes Region: villages of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake and surrounding hamlets; governments of Essex and Franklin counties; outdoor recreation; local government; public and private schools; two colleges; environmental issues; and more.

The weekly covers the Olympic Region, including Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games. This region is firmly rooted in the Olympic movement. It has a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center and routinely hosts international sporting events, such as World Cups for luge, bobsled/ skeleton and ski jumping. And U.S. Olympic luge, bobsled, skeleton, biathlon, ski jumping and Nordic combined teams regularly train here.
