About MD SPCA

Founded in 1869, the Maryland SPCA (MD SPCA) is one of the nation's oldest private animal welfare organizations. The mission of the MD SPCA is to improve the lives of pets and people. To deliver on that mission, the MD SPCA employs 80+ staff and relies on a corps of nearly 1,400 volunteers to deliver a variety of programs and services benefiting thousands of cats, dogs, and pet families in the greater Baltimore region annually.

Position Summary

Working within the MarCom Department, the Marketing and Communications Project Manager will coordinate, manage, and execute various innovative marketing and communications projects, ensuring alignment and continuity between stakeholders in multiple departments. With guidance, this role will own the MarCom Department's project management software (Monday.com) and act as lead on some projects. A strong understanding of marketing projects and timelines are essential to the success of this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Identify, assign, and track project responsibilities.

Coordinate the preparation, execution, and distribution of marketing materials including articles/blogs, news/press releases, e-blasts, newsletters, and social media posts.

Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications to identify and/or improve workflow systems within the department and externally.

Present ideas and recommendations to the Director of Marketing and Communications and other appropriate stakeholders.

Monitor and explore current/previous campaigns, trends, current events, and influencers in the area.

Proactively identify and support areas of need within the department and greater organization, collaborating to fully understand and coordinate needs across departments such as Development, Community Care and Advocacy, Events, and Operations.

Support and attend events including community events, third-party events, development functions, and other special events as needed.

Serve as a spokesperson and represent the MD SPCA at public events and other forms of media.

Evaluate the success of campaigns when completed.

Ensure that brand identity, messaging, and marketing and communications strategy are infused in all organizational efforts.

Ensure that all materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the organization and/or brand.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, media relations, or branding. Preference for candidates with non-profit experience.

A committed interest and willingness to quickly gain knowledge of the animal care industry, including the guidelines for standards of care in animal shelters, is required.

Proven ability in executing successful marketing campaigns.

Well-versed in project management and Monday.com (or similar software).

Ability to plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).

Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across multiple departments.

Successful management of multiple projects with varied timelines, sometimes on tight deadlines.

Excellent judgment and ability to act decisively in situations requiring quick but thorough analysis and decision-making.

Fluency with the latest information technology.

A commitment to the MD SPCA mission.

Physical Demands

Prolonged sitting, with some standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Use of computer monitor, keyboard, and telephone.

Ability to lift 15 lbs.

Working Conditions

Work is frequently performed in an office setting within an animal shelter.

Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends required.

Occasional exposure and handling of animals.

Exposure to high noise when in kennel area.

Occasional exposure to outdoor weather during certain fundraising and programmatic activities/events.

Occasional travel to offsite locations.
