The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.The Department of Art within the University of Alaska Anchorage is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Art History. This is an entry-level tripartite position with a rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will also hold the Talbot-Sage Professorship of Art, a 3-year position with special funding for creative activity and professional development.This position includes teaching a variety of core classes such as Western Art, Modern and Contemporary Art, and Art Appreciation. We are seeking to diversify our upper division class offerings by finding a candidate who may focus on topics such as ethnicity, indigenous art of the Americas, gender and racial studies, or other specialized areas of interest. A candidate must be committed to mentoring students by teaching in a variety of modalities, engaging in critical discourse, and encouraging innovative thinking. An ideal candidate will contribute to a fair, collegial, and equitable environment that cultivates a sense of inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.The main service component of this position entails the management and curation of our on-campus exhibition space, the Kimura Gallery. The gallery has hosted over 100 exhibitions of national and international artists. The Kimura Gallery is an educational facility that provides students and the public the opportunity to see and experience a wide range of art forms firsthand created by innovative artists. The programming schedule of the gallery is integrated into the coursework of Art History, Art Appreciation, and studio art classes.The applicant should engage in research and publication related to personal areas of interest as well as Kimura Gallery programming. We are looking for a candidate who is developing a track record of excellence in professional and scholarly achievement.Minimum Qualifications:PhD in Art History.Desired Qualifications:Instructor of record for college-level Art History courses (minimum 2 years experience).Experience in teaching History of Western Art, Contemporary and Modern Art.Curriculum development experience.Online teaching experience.Demonstrates creative teaching strategies.Curatorial experience (minimum 1 year experience).Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Participates in interdisciplinary collaboration.Evidence of a commitment to collegiality, diversity, equity, and inclusion.Responsibilities:Teach three courses per semester at the undergraduate level in Art History and Art Appreciation.Coordinate the Art History Program.Work collaboratively with adjunct faculty who teach Art History and Art Appreciation classes.Develop and teach special topic courses in Art History.Engage in teaching activities such as student advising, curriculum development, preparation of course material, facilitating critique of student research, holding office hours, and mentoring students.Curate and manage the yearly exhibition schedule for the Kimura Gallery.Coordinate the schedule and workload of the Kimura Gallery Exhibition Installer.Engage in scholarly research related to specialized areas of interest and Kimura Gallery programming.Provide service to the Department of Art and the University.Special Instructions to Applicants:To be considered for this position, applicants must attach the following documents to their online application:Teaching PhilosophyNames of three references with contact informationUnofficial transcripts verifying PhD in Art HistoryOne example of curatorial experienceOne example of research and scholarly activityReview of applications will begin on
