MacRostie Art Center (MAC) is a nonprofit art center dedicated to inspiring a creative community. The MAC believes art plays an important role in community development, creative opportunities should be accessible to everyone, and artists should be celebrated and supported.

All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.The MAC’s Art Shop operates in downtown Grand Rapids and sells work created by dozens of local and regional artists. The Art Shop is the first point of contact for visitors entering the space, and an essential part of the MAC’s role in the local creative community.GENERAL PURPOSEThis position manages the Art Shop at MacRostie Art Center. The Art Shop Manager works closely with artists, oversees the physical shop space, provides customer service, and maintains an online sales platform.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the guidance of the Executive Director and in partnership with the Management Team.HOURS/WORK SCHEDULEThis position is part-time at 20 hours per week with the possibility to grow to full-time for the right candidate. The schedule is flexible within a Monday – Saturday work week. Occasional evening work may be required.COMPENSATION$20/hourESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES50%: Art Shop ManagementCultivate and maintain positive relationships with artists represented in the Art Shop.Promote the Art Shop as a downtown retail destination.Maintain accurate records including updated artist biographies and contact information.Photograph, enter, and tag new inventory; check out old inventory.Manage the online Art Shop including updating inventory pages and processing orders.Create artist spotlight opportunities in the Art Shop and through social media.Work with Executive Director and Operations Manager to develop an Art Shop retail strategy.35%: Front Desk StaffingManage front desk – schedule workers, stock supplies, maintain cleanliness.Staff front desk – greet visitors, and process gallery sales.15%: Art Shop LayoutMerchandise Art Shop and window display; rotate work on a regular basis.QUALIFICATIONSThe ideal candidate would reflect this description:Friendly, helpful, and patient -- a creative problem solver with an eye for design and attention to detail.Essential qualifications and characteristics:Commitment to the MAC’s values of inclusion and accessibility in the arts.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals with diverse abilities, interests, and communication styles.Energized by working with people and face-to-face communication.Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.Excellent organizational skills, comfortable moving between multiple projects in a workday.Comfortable learning new software programs and using computers.Experience in retail or customer service.Ability to lift objects and navigate stairs.Additional qualifications and characteristics:Experience in nonprofit organizations, preferably in management and/or administration roles.Proficiency with social media platforms and marketing experience.Familiarity with Mac OS, Microsoft Office Suite, Squarespace, Salesforce, and Shopify.MacRostie Art Center does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, gender identity, disability, or national origin in the hiring, retention, or promotion of employees.
