This Designer opportunity will have a 50% / 50% focus:

50% working as part of a small team of mechanical designers focused on a specific new product development that includes designing autonomous-capable, electric drivetrain, hybrid and battery-electric mowers. They will be focusing on engineering design, or portions of a design, for new or revised product. Meet established customer requirements and schedules. Assists in the execution of all documentation, release, production and service follow-up of assigned new or revised products.

50% of the time working with 50% of the time working on current production design, warranty, & cost improvements.

Work Location:

This opportunity is based out of Bloomington, MN international headquarters. Candidates should prepare for a hybrid schedule, that includes 3-days on-site.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

Create designs and design layouts for new product concepts, new products or improvements to existing products. Ensure engineering design for new products and improved products meet market, safety, quality, performance, reliability, durability requirements of the customer.

Prepare design layouts and coordinate designs with others assigned to the project to ensure integration of the design. Responsible for basic design calculations such as gear pulley ratios, MPH, rpm's, and weight distribution.

Secure assistance of consultants or internal specialists i.e. CAE analysis support engineers, manufacturing engineers, and/or vendor experts.

Use the best technology available in each and every area of design. Conduct team design reviews, safety reviews and cost and manufacturing reviews. Assure that all parts designed can be manufactured. Maintain accurate lists of parts created. Coordinate or help to coordinate the release of parts for production whether for prototypes or final production.

Work with mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers and others to determine changes which are needed to meet customer requirements. Solve design problems. Coordinate the required documentation to assure that the changes are implemented on a timely basis.

CADD utilized as necessary to do project related work.

Keep supervisor informed of project status and issues that may require assistance.

Job Title:

The job title will be determined based on combined education and experience:

Designer II Graduate of an accredited technical school for design and drafting (two-year course) combined with a minimum of 2 (two) years of experience in the mechanical drafting field. Technical ability in math and mechanics preferable. Demonstrated ability to independently accomplish duties & responsibilities as listed. --OR-- Graduate of an accredited university or college with a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering related technology (ex. Automotive, Manufacturing, Design, Electrical, Mechanical.) Demonstrated ability to independently accomplish duties & responsibilities as listed.

Designer III Graduate of an accredited technical school for design and drafting (two-year course) combined with a minimum of 4 (four) years of experience in the mechanical drafting field. Technical ability in math and mechanics preferable. Demonstrated ability to independently accomplish duties & responsibilities as listed. --OR-- Graduate of an accredited university or college with a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering related technology (ex. Automotive, Manufacturing, Design, Electrical, Mechanical.) Demonstrated ability to independently accomplish duties & responsibilities as listed.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

Degree from an accredited technical school (2 year course) or greater.

Experience with CADD required; SAP, Creo, Windchill preferred.

Demonstrates strong systems and process thinking. Able to build and maintain effective relationships. Ability to have a positive, solution-focused, and professional attitude. Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with others. Clear and effective verbal communication.

Exhibits creativity and is forward-thinking in solving problems. Strong attention to detail. Takes initiative, is self-directed, and results driven.

Ability to maintain an active/valid driver's license for possible domestic travel up to 0%-10% for team collaborations and prototype builds at alternate facilities.
