The Catholic News Agency is EWTN’s fast-paced global information service covering news through accurate and ethical reporting from a Catholic perspective. The Managing Editor works with the Editor-in-Chief to manage the day-to-day operations for the Catholic News Agency website and editorial service and provides quality control on articles and documents appearing on the specified medium, ensuring they are objective, clear, and theologically sound.
Candidates should take the time to read all the elements of this job advert carefully Please make your application promptly.WHAT YOU WILL DO:Take part in week-day morning and afternoon planning meetings with the CNA Editorial team.Coordinates coverage and story assignments with reporters and freelance writers; edits and posts copy on the website.Works with Editor-in-Chief regarding content of the site, ensuring the tone, vision, and angle of coverage are maintained based on preset guidelines.Promotes diversity of perspective (within bounds of magisterium) regarding coverage of news and approach to coverage.Checks stories for legal, ethical, and theological concerns and consults with the Editor-in-Chief and/or Editorial Director on pertinent items.Ensures proper and consistent catechetical consistency of news and other content.Works closely with the Senior Copy Editor, and other staff members as necessary, to assemble and ensure on-time content.Ensures tasks assigned to the team are completed by established deadlines; adjusts timelines as needed; ensures timely communications status with key partners.Manages DC-based staff for performance, training, and development; serves as mentor to direct reports to ensure the highest quality production possible.ABOUT YOU:You have a minimum of 5-8 years of prior experience in Journalism, including writing and editing, preferably in a news environment with a focus on Catholic church-related coverage.You have at least 2-3 years of prior experience managing the performance of direct reports.You have earned an undergraduate degree in English, Communication, Journalism, or other relevant field required; a Master’s degree is preferred.You are a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, possessing a thorough knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church with the ability to apply that knowledge to the news coverage; understanding of and commitment to EWTN’s mission.You possess excellent writing and editing skills with advanced journalistic knowledge.You demonstrate a proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task at a high level and adjust quickly to changing priorities.You are able to work a flexible schedule, including weekend/nights as needed to meet deadlines and cover breaking news.You are flexibility to travel by air periodically, domestically and/or internationally, as needed.WHAT YOU’LL LOVE ABOUT WORKING HERE:We offer a career with purpose!
