Team Leader- Highway Design

Weston & Sampson is currently expanding our Transportation practice in the northeastern United States and we are seeking to add experienced and qualified highway design engineering/management staff with at least 15 years of professional experience in highway and roadway engineering, working out of our Rocky Hill, CT office. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing a team of professionals in transportation projects and in developing business in this discipline primarily with public clients such as MassDOT, CTDOT, and municipalities in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Weston & Sampson currently holds MassDOT and CTDOT bridge and highway contracts and is continuously being awarded sole source task orders under these contracts. As a result, the near-term objective is to lead and grow our technical teams to provide our clients with high quality engineering services.

The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.What you’ll do:Manage/lead technical projects from both the financial and technical perspectives.Lead and guide a team of professionals to successful project delivery.Supervise 6-10 direct reporting engineers and project managers.Duties will include identifying and leading pursuits of opportunities with state DOTs and municipal clients.Prepare contract scope and fees for highway and/or bridge projects.Present to clients qualifications and technical approach to performing engineering design contracts.The successful candidate will work closely with Transportation Discipline leaders and others to grow Weston & Sampson’s transportation capabilities presence in New England.What you will bring:BS in Civil Engineering is required; MS in Civil Engineering is desired.Licensed Professional Engineer required in CT or MA and ability to become licensed in other states.NCEES Record is a plus.Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads Designer/CTDOT Digital Design Environment is required.Established relationships with CTDOT and MassDOT design staff and experience in the use of MassDOT/CTDOT Engineering Design Standards and AASHTO is a plus.Strong written and verbal communication skills and organization and time management skills are also required.Some travel will be required to client meetings and project sites, and potentially to other W&S office locations.Strong technical expertise in transportation engineering.Strong leadership abilities as this position will include direct supervision and responsibility of engineering staff.The ability to self-start is important.Valid driver's license required.
