The UCSD MASLD Research Center within the Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine conducts research studies on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH, formerly known as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD, formerly termed nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) in adult patients.The Center participates in numerous pharmaceutical clinical trials and PI initiated studies which focus on therapeutic interventions for MASH and the discovery and validation of innovative biomarkers for steatotic liver diseases (SLDs), with a special focus on identifying those patients at greatest risk for steatohepatitis, advanced liver fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our team also leads the UCSD Clinical Center in the Liver Cirrhosis Network (LCN) and the Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis Clinical Research Network (NASHCRN), which are multi-center studies funded by NIH and sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). UCSD is one of eight sites within the NASH CRN, which focuses on the etiology, contributing factors, natural history, complications, and therapy of MASH and MASLD. It is one of 10 sites within the LCN, which focuses on identifying risk factors underlying disease progression in liver cirrhosis and identifying effective therapeutic interventions for patients with cirrhosis.Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Senior Grant Writer is primarily responsible for researching, developing, and writing grant proposals, while aligning these efforts with overall fundraising goals and strategic planning. The incumbent conducts needs assessments, oversees any related data collection, organizes and interprets complex data, facilitates clear communication, analyzes program activities, and ensures the successful submission of proposals with minimal supervision. The incumbent may also support the team by contributing to the development of clinical research protocols, scientific manuscripts, progress reports, and by facilitating communications with collaborators and other stakeholders.The role involves writing and editing comprehensive and challenging materials for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, and content development. The Senior Grant Writer researches, selects sources, conducts interviews, and ensures accuracy in all written work. She/he recommends content and layout, contributes to editing and revision, coordinates the production of printed and online materials, and facilitates the conversion of print materials to digital formats for archiving.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

Experience with writing scientific grant proposals independently; application should include a detailed list of each successfully funded proposal written by the applicant.

Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation.

Thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.

Thorough skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and/or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location's message.

Thorough knowledge of a related academic discipline or field and/or health sciences.

Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and/or web production.

Thorough research and fact verification skills.

Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills.

Experience in data collection, management and analysis using web tools, relational databases, statistical software and spreadsheets.

Thorough attention to detail, project management and organizational skills.

Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; Able to effectively communicate, actively listen, effectively collaborate, and establish and maintain good working relationships with a diverse population. Demonstrated ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion.

Pay Transparency ActAnnual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
