Position Summary
The University of Central Arkansas visiting faculty is responsible for teaching, research and service. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. The position is non-tenure track and a one year appointment.
The Journalism Program at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) invites applications for two full-time, 9-month Visiting Lecturer positions beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year. This position will begin August 16, 2025.
The ideal candidates will bring a collaborative spirit and new perspectives to our current faculty. The successful candidates must be committed to teaching in a liberal arts environment and be intent on maintaining an active artistic and scholarly life.
The journalism program at UCA offers professional training in gathering, assessing, creating and presenting verified information and news that can be used by the public to make better decisions. Journalists seek the facts and the truth behind those facts. Through broadcast, print and online productions, students and faculty of the program share their work with mass media audiences. The focused curriculum equips students with practical skills to find jobs as professional journalists and strong communicators. Graduates have found journalism positions in news, politics, business, sports, health care media and global commerce. Job Duties and Responsibilities
Applicants must be willing to participate in local, regional, and/or national professional development, have a genuine interest in journalism education and be willing to serve as student media advisers. Successful applicants will be required to teach courses in Journalism Across Digital Platforms, especially beginning to advanced processes for Online Publishing with an emphasis on news storytelling across a variety of media platforms, data mining, and design and usability techniques to create functional websites. Successful applicants may be required to teach courses in the curriculum including Advanced Reporting, Beginning Reporting, Media Law, Media & Society, and work as faculty advisors for the student newspaper or the student yearbook. Applicants will also be encouraged to develop new courses in their areas of expertise.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
We seek a journalist-turned-educator whose teaching is grounded in professional journalism. Candidates must have a news writing and reporting background, along with experience as advisors to student newspapers and school annuals. Multimedia journalism (print, online, video) experience to help students develop the digital skills they need to excel in the world of online reporting is strongly preferred. Significant professional journalism experience is required; college teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Required Education and/or Experience
The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in journalism or a closely related field. Candidates must have a news writing and reporting background. Multimedia journalism (print, online, video) experience to help students develop the digital skills they need to excel in the world of online reporting is strongly preferred. Significant professional journalism experience is required; college teaching experience is strongly preferred.
