Communications Manager

The ideal candidate will work directly with Director of Business Development, firm leaders and our external public relations teams on a variety of exciting internal and external initiatives as well as in managing a number of day-to-day communications efforts at the firm. The ideal candidate will directly supervise members of the communications team.
Job responsibilities will include:
Create and execute annual content calendars and liaise with practice group leaders across the firm to strategize, develop and implement PR and content programs to build and expand the firm's brand and reputation across all practice areas. Lead the relationship with firm's external PR agencies to increase firm and attorney profiles in media and print, including overseeing firm wide media engagements and serving as the primary internal press contact for reporter requests and outreach. Analyze and vet all incoming press opportunities for alignment with broader strategic positioning efforts, as well as reputation and risk management considerations. Assist attorneys in preparing for media opportunities, including helping develop key talking points, coordinating any additional research required, and as needed, joining interviews live. Oversee the writing, editing and publishing of website content, including deal announcements, award announcements, attorney Q&As, practice group descriptions, attorney biographies, firm newsletters. Lead efforts around strategic communications projects to support the firm's brand externally. Working in coordination with other marketing team members and other administrative teams across the firm, support various internal communications efforts as needed. Oversee the team handling legal directory submissions including but not limited to Chambers, Legal 500, Managing IP Stars and World Trademark Review. Prepare responses for media-related surveys and award submissions for the firm and individual attorneys. Manage junior communications team members. Requirements
Must have a Bachelor's degree, ideally in communications or marketing-related field. 5+ years of prior public/media relations experience required. Experience within a professional or financial services firm preferred, but candidates from all industries with the right skill-set and a willingness to learn a new sector will be considered. Prior experience or familiarity with the legal directories submissions process (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500) is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Professional demeanor, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong "presence" and leadership skills. Proven ability to mentor and coach team junior members and foster a collaborative environment. Exceptional attention to detail coupled with the ability to distill complex issues into clear, concise language. Ability to work collaboratively with firm attorneys, media contacts and colleagues at all levels.
